Is this a really stupid idea about getting VIDEO OUT on the gh1(3)? Or could it work?

I sent one of my gh13s in for a repair at an electrical shop the other day, because the flip-out screen kept flicking on and off.

Anyway, I went in, told them the problem, came back that afternoon, paid them $25, and went home. Camera works like new.

But it got me thinking...what did they do to fix it? Did they open it up and re-wire it?

On this train of thought, could you rewire it to connect to a larger monitor?

I have no electrical training (as you can probably tell!) but if people with some knowledge could share their thoughts, I might take it back and see what they can do.

I have 3 gh13s so its not a huge deal if it doesn't work/breaks.

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

:) Good point :) But I'm getting SO desperate for video out. The gh13 is such an amazing camera, but many people won't use it on pro shoots because of the lack of video out - which is perfectly understandable.

If we had video out, gh13 would be a giant killer. Doesn't even need to be HDMI out.

Good thing GH2 has live uncompressed clean awesome HDMI out.

OP, gratz on getting your camera fixed quickly and cheaply...holy crap!

Thanks! It's just a local, family-run electrical store that fix pretty much everything. I wouldn't send it back to Panasonic for fear of them updating the firmware! (And charging a lot more).

Yes, gh2 will have HDMI out which is great, but I still live in hope Vitaliy will crack it for the GH13.

No-one has actually managed to record this properly have they?

I haven't seen convincing evidence of live GH2 HDMI recorded/captured to an external device yet, unfortunately. That doesn't mean it isn't possible, or hasn't been done, just that I haven't seen it demonstrated by multiple, reliable sources.

If anyone has succeeded, they're keeping it a secret. :-)

The gh2 does uncompressed video out? uncompressed as in RAW?

Y'know the major difference between a RED and a GH is the compression scheme, if it sends raw out it can be captured.

P. Bloom is doing it next week.

To quote Ben Bunch: "There are like 5 things wrong with this statement." :-)

Meanwhile, see Barry Green's post here:

:D

then its not uncompressed, its just hasnt been converted into a gop format, and apparently it drops a frame every 17 seconds so capturing hdmi out is useless.

Unless you can back up your statement with footage & documentation, please stop repeating this "theory". Thanks.
