Hi Everyone!
I'm new to the forum, and I'm not sure if this is the right place ot post this, but I was wondering if you all could help me out. I was interested in buying a Canon XL-1 but people have told me the DVW100b is the way to go. Now I'm trying to figure out how to get it for as cheap as I possibly can. If only DVX100b's grew on trees :)

My question is this... Is this a good deal?

If not... do you have any idea where to get a camera for relatively inexpensive? I'm a starving college student at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh working on a degree in Animation, but I'm I have short film scripts lying around I want to film. Any suggestions on how to get a good camera would be AMAZING!

Thanks,
Josh Stifter

I've been doing a lot of research of late, and from what I've read they just sell you the camera without any wires or battery. After you pay, you usually get a phone call stating that the camera you purchased is on back order, then they tell you that you should probably buy a battery and charger conveniently priced at around $400 or so each. Long story short, not a good idea.

I'm on the verge of making a purchase of my own.
I'm thinking of going with these guys...

I'm aware of the online Grey Market scene, and they clearly state that this is an American model. I think I'm going to go for it.

don't trust them!! the absolute cheapest that you will find a new dvx100B for should be 2 grand and up! the cheapest reliable source i found them from was new egg, then b&h was a real close second. I saw atleast 6 or 7 sights advertising them for around $900. I called one place and asked him all these questions and after he couldn't tell me anything straight forward, I tried another one with a similar "to good to be true" price. Guess what.... the same guy answered!! Completely different company, number, everything!! there are tons of these sights who, like DeanPizzo said, say it's on back order and then say you have to add batteries and such or they won't ship it to you. And YES, some of these companies even exist on EBAY!

Do yourself a favor and buy some peace of mind to go with that camera and use a reliable company.

Do not buy it, IT IS A SCAM. I got my Dvx from an online store on ebay. Check the sellers ratings and if they have sold thousands of products with very little negative feedback you know it's fair game.

Thanks everyone! I guess I may have to wait then. $2000 is a little out of my range at this point...

Hopefully soon it'll be in my range.

Thanks,

yow Josh...look around the market place. Most of the cams there are in very good condition as they are handled by people who care about their gear. And its people that can be trusted. Many users here have bought there gear right here on the marketplace and it shud be around $1600 and up usually WITH added goodies.

I purchased a new DVX100b from a site ( they also advertised on Ebay) I got a good deal, but it was not an authorized dealer. They delivered, with the extras they advertised. I will not give the name of the dealer. I amy have gotten lucky. Always be careful. They said it had warranty. Yeah through them, not Panasonic. Beware what you ask for. The camera is great. I could have easily benn ripped off though.
