Alright, so the DVX100 records in 24p? First, is this 24fps? Or is "p" and "fps" 2 different things? Ive used different software before and a cheap 1 Ive played around with was mpegstreamclip which just converts different formats and stuff. But, when it converts I can choose my frame rate. So lets say my Cam records in 30fps, I can put 24fps and once it converts, its 24fps. Whats the difference between that conversion and I guess "native" fps? Thanks!

It is progressive, digitally with pulldown from 60i.

Is it 24 fps ? Yes, it is 24 progressive frames captured per second.

Why would you shoot 30 ?

Im saying, what if I take video in 30fps, I dont know...on accidently or something lol and I want it to be 24? If I use a program that allows me to set the frame rate, will it be the same if I had initially recorded in 24p? Or is it completely different? Pretty much, if someone doesnt have a camera that does 24p, can he just use the program and set the frame rate to 24 and have the video he wants as if recording in 24p?

You have to know if you're shooting 30 fps (30p) or 59.94 fields per second (60i), which is normal USA video.

If you're shooting 30p, then you never want to try to convert it to 24p; it won't be good. But if you're shooting normal video (60i), yes, you can convert it to 24p, but you lose vertical resolution. It also may not look good if you don't take care to shoot carefully, with slow camera movements, like you would with 24p or 24 fps film.

I thought is was FROM 60i ? or ...........

Of screw it. Like i really need to know.

lol

Just want to avoid the confusion -- the 24p isn't made from 60i -- the 24p is what the camera shoots, and then in order to record it to tape, it adds pulldown which conforms it to 60i.

Yeah yeah

You know I aint too smart about these things Dave.

Alright. So for instance, I also have a JVC GZ-HD7 which does 1920x1080i. So I guess that means it is 60i? Im new at all of this, dont bite! So If I record nicely using the GZ-HD7, if I put the video into the program and convert to something and set the frame rate to 24, it would be like shooting 24p using a DVX100 or other 24p camera?

It would take on the characteristics of 24p, yes, if it's also converting it from interlaced to progressive.

But again, I caution you -- you can't just shoot 60i any way you want and get a good result converting it to 24p. You have to take care to move the camera like you're shooting 24p from the get-go. Study up on those techniques.

Also, as I said, converting 60i to 24p will result in a resolution loss.

So, if you can, if you want 24p, shoot with a 24p camera.

Ok, its just exploring all options with the Cams I have. Thanks for the info!!
