Is there anything I can do to prevent jerky Vimeo playback on my Macs?

I can not watch any Vimeo or Youtube HD videos on my Macs. They are jerky and have long pauses. Even SD vimeo videos are terrible. I have a PPC HG with 4 gigs of RAM. But I can watch them just fine on my piece of crap PC laptops wirelessly without issue. I don't get it.

It's not the RAM. It's the other chips, especially the CPU. My laptop has an Athlon 64 1.2 GHz chip and 2 GB of RAM. It can't play Vimeo smoothly either.

PowerPC appears to be the most likely culprit.

I will add to this that I uploaded a video to vimeo recently using my usual high quality encoder settings and upon playback on vimeo it looked like crap. I deleted the file and uploaded it again and all was fine. It seems that vimeo may have different re-encoding rates based on the time of day or backlog.

I feel your pain.

It's a conspiracy against us classic PPC hanger-on-ers! :Drogar-Thinking(DBG:violin:

What I have to do is close all other programs, all other internet windows, let the movie download completely, and watch fullscreen. Then, I can at least enjoy it at 12 fps, rather than the 2 fps it would be otherwise.:engel017:

LOL. We just can't let go can we? I will try your method and see if that works.

I have never been to exposure room but I'm going there today.

XR videos do look lovely and with their new player the transparent look is gorgeous when you embed it.

However I had two problems with the site - and I should say this was when I was last using it a year + ago.

Firstly, they are windows based, to upload a file generated by a mac, i.e. quicktime h.264 mp4, will cause the video to get a bit washed out when you upload it. Vimeo, at least, is mac so the video I output looks like the video I upload.

Secondly, the XR player would automatically play after it's buffered a bit, even after I've paused it. My connection isn't the fastest in the world (UK internet is sub-par :( ) so on video sites I'll click play, hit pause, let it buffer for a bit, and watch when it's half done. XR would often ignore me hitting pause and just play the file after it's buffered a bit, which is annoying if you don't want it to happen.
