GH2 Is there a wide angle adapter I can put on the 14-140?

I have been looking to buy a wide fast lens, but it is out of my budget, so is there an adapter that will give me a 14mm (7mm) wide angle that I can connect to the front of the 14-140 kit lens?

I also have a 50mm Carl Zeiss 1.4 I would like to do this with as well.

You can get any WA adaptor in the right size and attach it to the front threads of the kit lens.

Is it a good idea? No.

You'll likely take a massive quality hit with any cheap adaptor. Plus you'll lose some light over the already slow kit lens so it would never be a 'fast wide lens.' Save your money until you can afford a proper wide angle lens. Until then, rent when you need to.

You can get a 0.5x WA adapter, but a good quality one isn't cheap either. An ultra-wide fast 14mm equiv is hard to find, in fact other than the Samyang 14/2.8 for 35mm full-frame, I'm not aware of any other equiv in m43, the Lumix 7-14 is a f4.

I've played with a couple of options... two decent adapters I've tried are from previous cameras, including a Canon WD-58 0.7x (58mm, vignettes at 14mm on the 14-140), Century 0.7x (for Z1U) and a 16x9 EXII 0.6x (for HVX) - none gets right to that magical, actual "0.5x" though, and each is a little pricey to buy just for this purpose. Quality is OK, main issue is loss of sharpness at the corners. A Raynox (5800?) 0.66x and a no-name Chinese 52mm 0.5x also technically work with some of the , but significantly reduce image quality (corner softness, blooming, and so forth). The IQ hit is exagerrated the wider open the lens is... so at f10 they are fairly useable, but "effecty" wider than f4.

The best fast wide lens I have has its own issues - it's a Tamron 4-12mm/1.2 C-mount. It has to be used in ETC mode (with all its issues - mostly noise) or with a teleconverter (with all its issues - light loss and corner degradation). It has weird square bokeh from a straight four-bladed iris. Its small and fiddly to operate. It is the exact opposite of parfocal. You have to grind down the collar to even fit it properly on a c-mount adapter (it's plastic, so it's not hard). However, in the right instances, it can work fairly well. Plus side - it costs from $90 new to maybe $35 used.

I tried some wide angle adapters for the 14-140....
After several re-shoots I finally got the 7-14.
Yes it is pricy but very sharp and gets the job done.

High-quality wide-angle adapters are simply too heavy to attach to the 14-140mm's plastic snorkel. But if you don't mind a blurry touch of fisheye distortion, there are plenty of cheap, lightweight wide-angle adapters on Amazon.
