Is there a site that shows what lenses look like?

I'm from the fixed lens world so forgive the broadness of the question. I pre-ordered the AF-100 with the 14-140 and am toying with what other lenses to get for it. I have my eye on the 20mm Lumix lens as well just to get going and then I'll decide what I need as time goes on.

Because I'm from a fixed lens background, I can honestly say that I don't know what a 20mm will look like versus say a 50mm etc. Is there a site or imagery somewhere that shows some various lenses and the shot they produce?

I second the question, and add that ideally the site would show us what these lenses look like on a sensor the size of the AF100 (or at least an APS-C sensor.)

Ok, now (and I realize this may sound absurd). If I have the 14-140...what is the advantage of buying say a 20mm prime if I can set the variable lens to 20mm (or any given focal length in between).

The 20MM has a much larger aperture, f1.7, offering much shallower DOF and quite a bit better low-light capability. Doubtlessly optically superior as well.

Good shooting and best regards,

Please forgive me, but my mouth has dropped very wide! We are talking about a brand new camera, with only preview style reviews available and very little manufacturer information. We have people who have ordered them and lenses without any understanding of what they've ordered? Fair enough, I guess if you have the money in the pocket doing nothing, and are prepared to be the guinnea pigs it's ok.

I'm just a little amazed equipment of this 'individual' nature is being ordered without any knowledge of what it actually is, or does.

I figured someone reading this might have that reaction and I can't say I blame you. I know this camera will give me the imagery that I want for my clients in regards to the DOF that I have been lacking. I know that I in no way want to get into the HDSLR world and have been waiting for a video style camera that will give me the DOF that I am looking for. While I don't have the background that some have in regards to interchangeable lenses, I know that is where I want to go, and am willing to learn as much as I can before the camera arrives and well after I have been using it for a good while.

Really? Some of us have a long and fruitful history with Panasonic and a high trust level with them. Plus, there is actually a great deal of information available on the AF100 plus some samples of footage from Beta cameras.

I find any degree of "amazement" surprising for the enthusiasm over a camera that has virtually every desirable accessory and feature at a surprisingly low price.

Lastly, this particular thread is about lens angles of view, so you're guilty of hijacking as well as unwarranted surprise!

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo

hahahaha!!! I understand you if you are a newbe as photo, video or cinematographer! So I'll tell you: I live in Colombia, a far counry in South America. I'm using Panasonic equipement since 1989. I never think like or feel like a guinnea pig. I have never been disapointed of what Panasonic sends to me, and believe me, here is very difficult to previously see the equipement. We have to send the money, wait (Sometimes several months) and work with the stuff as soon as it arrives. In all those years, I haven't needed to return my equipement claiming warranty because malfunction or damage. The quality of the panasonic equipement is only comparable to the quality of the results. We made TV Shows (more than 1500 hours) Short films (about 16) and Film features (4 blown up to 35 mm) all in our (successively owned) AGEZ1U - AGDVX100 - AGHVX 200. Based in our experience, we have preordered 3 AF100 wich are going to be used (with other devices like Digital recorders and so) in a historic feature film nest year in february.

Regards.

PS: Sorry about my english.

I think the point of that post was that someone would do better to know the answers to questions like 'why get a prime' before ordering. Otherwise the poster probably doesn't know when it would come in use. Which has some validity, but hopefully grabbing some cheap lenses and trying them out will be educational.

I've had that 20/1.7 and it's a nice still lens. It's sharp and looks great but when in cold weather the focus ring becomes to stiff and is not something I would recommend to pull focus with. It has a narrow focus ring also that makes it hard. Check out this video I made with the lens last winter:
