GH2 Is there a hack database?

There are so many hacks and so many versions that it's so confusing. The only one I have tried is flowmotion as it is very popular here in the forums. It's nice but I have seen so many videos made with driftwood that look much sharper and overall nicer. But there are so many driftwood hacks too. Is there a database that says for which situations each hack is recomended? I saw somewhere for example that there are driftwood hacks for night, day, skin, landscape and so on. But not which ones are for what. Google doesn't help. Just brings a thousand topics about driftwood in general, but nothing specific.
Where can I find this info and also about other hacks? Thank you.

I found a database for downloads but nothing listing advantages and disadvantages for each hack and the like.

That's where your own personal tests come into play.

I can't test all hacks out there. I would at least need a list of all that exist. I was already told that the link above is missing some good hacks and is incomplete. But I guess this is a moot point anyways since your reply has nothing to do with the question I asked and reads more like a little insult.

So I guess you didn't really have anything useful to contribute in the thread. Should just not have posted.

@Sttratos - that may have been a gentle dig to do some of your own research (like we all did) - all the information is there on personal-view, it's a question of bothering to read up. Getting shirty isn't going to get help from anyone.

I just don't understand what is the point of replying to a question if you are not going to answer it. The question is, is there a database for hacks? Answers are, yes, here:xxxxxxx, or no, there is not. atarijedi came in to answer the question. Gary came in to play the smart pants.
I have been to personal-view. This was the first place I looked and didn't find anything like a database. That there is info scattered around that site I know, but this was not what I asked. The database mentioned is not a database in the fashion I asked and it's not even complete. It's not that I'm lazy to do my own research. I just wanted to know if there was already a database so I can start there. The presonal-view site is not well organited as DVXuser and it's very hard to search. I also doubt very much that everybody here has tested all hacks to decide. It's just funny that forums like these exist and survive on the fact that people come here to ask and share questions and info but there's always this attitude from some people that you are on your own. So what's the point?

Did you see the driftwood series 6 thread over there? That is the most comprehensive thread I have seen for his hacks. The only other hack I am aware of that I have been able to try is Flowmotion. That can be found over there too. I think there might be a few russian and South American people that have created hacks, but I haven't been able (or really tried) to find those. So...there isn't an all inclusive database that I know of...but for all intents and purposes, the Driftwood series 6 thread is the closest I have found to a full database.

Thank you. I this the thread you mean:
http://www.personal-view.com/talks/...ypse-now-cluster-galaxian-gx1-sedna-canis-etc...

I have been specifically looking for the driftwood hacks for day, night, skin and landscape that I saw mentioned on some forums but couldn't find them. Not even on personal-view.

Yeah, that is the thread. Page one. He describes most of the different hacks. Canis Majoris for low light. Sedna A (HQ) maybe for landscapes. I'm no pro on the subject. But that is the resource I have been utilizing. Testing things out for myself.

With that attitude you won't get very far.
we've all been there, and we all did our own research and tried the hacks out for ourselves.
spend a couple of nights reading up about it.
youll be glad you did as you will learn a lot more about your camera besides just the hacks.

you want a short cut? Fine. Use flowmotion or sanity 5.

I wonder why you call Flowmotion a shortcut?

Probably because it's a good all around, reliable hack that gives great quality. I don't really have time to get into the tech specs of different hacks, because I'm out shooting. So FlowMotion is a shortcut in the sense that you don't really need to go out and field test it and make sure it will work on your cards with your GH2 settings and film modes. If you have Class 10 cards, it will work and give great results.

I recommend it to people all the time, because I know it means they won't call me and ask me questions about it :) It will just work.

Flowmotion for me gives the dreaded "rain noise" in the dark areas. Many people have reported this issue. I use Adobe CS though. It has been reported that that could be why. I agree with Jim. Apocalypse Now Drewnet is probably the best in my opinion. Followed by Sedna and CM.

Hm... hadn't heard of those issues, or personally experienced them. But I'm using FCP7 and transcoding to ProRes... so idk :)

I've only had that once (the noise on Flowmotion). I'm using CS5.
I may switch to Sanity.

I gave up on the Driftwood ones as he just updates too often.

How is this a bad thing? If you are happy with the current version you have no reason to update. If you are not you should be happy there's an update.

My issue with Driftwood is reliability.

It's a bad thing because I haven't got the time to follow it!
I remember when he released 9b, and said it wouldn't get better than that. There's been lots more updates since then.

Don't get me wrong, Driftwood is a legend. Can't thank him enough for what he has produced. It's just I can't spend the time navigating Personal View and changing hacks all the time. Flowmotion is a great all-rounder, with decent file sizes and spanning on Class 10 cards.

I'm sorry, I still don't get it. If you are happy with the current hack why would you have to follow it? Stick with the one you're using. If you are not happy then you should be glad he has updates. Or the fact he releases an update makes you feel like the current one is no longer good enough?
