Is their a cannon DSLR that's good with noise like the GH3?

I want a camera that is really low on noise for city night shooting like the GH3. I would like to have the GH3 but I got all these Canon lenses, and would like to still use them since they are perfectly good. Adapters can be quite expensive, and I would still loose money. Selling the lenses is no the best option cause I would probably still loose just as much money as I would buying an adapter. Is their any Canon DSLRs that are not full frame (don't want full frame, cause I want deeper DOF), that are just as good on low noise like the GH3?

Thanks.

will you be shooting just wide city scapes or narrative types of shot with actors?

If its just city scapes I found out that using FPS override on the canon via ML I can shoot even at 100-200 iso and that greatly reduces noise.

Please excuse my flame, but you are being silly now, you can get deep depth of field on a full frame camera.

Sorry for being so rude, but what you need is not another camera, what you need... Is to learn the basics of photography!

All the Best!

I agree with this. You want deep depth of field on full frame? put wide lens on, turn the aperture up, turn the iso up and focus to infinity. There boom!!

The DOF difference between the GH3 and Canon 5D is only 2 f-stops. Simply close down 2 stops and add more light or raise your ISO by 2 stops and you've got the same DOF.

what kind of adapter are you talking about that would cost you lots of money? Learn and improve on your technique first. Remember those stillmotion guys? they damn good shooting with canon dslr full frame. It is all about your skill.

Okay thanks. Well I thought I was told before that that a smaller frame isn't as shallow but I guess that was wrong. But full frames are a lot more expensive. Is their something I could get in Canon that's as good as the GH3 when it comes to noise, that is not full frame, and therefore cheaper?

Maybe the new Canon 7D Mk2 when ever it arrives, otherwise you will have to move up to a Canon C100 which costs more than the 5D Mk3 camera but it's a dedicated video camera with 12 stops of dynamic range and can almost see in the dark at 20,000 ISO.

Okay thanks. The GH3 is $1200 right now, and I really don't want to pay anything over $1200 though tops. I have the canon T3i, but it sucks for some night scenes where I am not allowed to light the streets. I want to do both street shots of actors, and city overview shots, or at least neighborhood overview shots. But the T3i has too much noise for natural city lighting.

I've thought about it both of those, but the lights do not do much good for wide shots, just close ups it seems. I have seen noise reduction software but it makes the image look kind of synthetic after. All the details in the actors' faces are gone and it all just looks too smooth. I'm trying to aim for professional standards, so as long as it's considered 'acceptable', I am up for using noise reduction.

You need to calibrate the NeatVideo noise reduction plug-in to your camera settings, which will get rid of most of the noise without ruining your image quality.

Yeah but some of the locations I need to use will not let me light them, such as a street. I've tried finding others, but cannot find any that will let me shoot.

Best way to do it is shoot a few seconds at your desired ISO with the lens cap on. Then shoot your scene. Use the lens capped shot to set your NeatVideo noise profile and you'll end up with some super accurate noise reduction.

Also, noise reduction software works and looks a hell of a lot better if you only reduce/remove the chroma noise. The other stuff just looks like film grain IMHO.

Okay thanks that should really help! I should test that.

As for lighting at night to be more professional, maybe instead of buying a new camera for $1000, I should spend that $1000 on big powerful light. Could I get a light powerful to illuminate a whole street view?

Why not learn to walk before you run?

Rather than lighting the whole street, start with a couple of small portable LED lights and concentrate on lighting your main subject first.
