Is the use of i zoom and extenders worth the quality loss.

Yes IMO,gettting to 1776mm with the FZ1000 is pushing it but compared to what the 16x would give i will take it.

But you forgot one important when shooting at super telephoto: optical stabilizer. Not sure how well the HPX-250 & PX270 is able to work with this at such high magnification. The scenario has to be <8 mph wind and on a super steady tripod, preferably something within 30-40 lbs load capacity to minimize unwanted vibration. That can run in the $4-5K range just for the head only. But even that, you can't escape wind force that will ruin the shot. Typically for it to be very effective, optical stabilization occurs at the lens level. You can actually hear the lens moving and adjusting in real time. Fujinon & Canon make them. But they're in the $15-20K range. There you can control vertical, horiz, and modes of stabilization. It's a very customized system. Then you have problem with sharpness and clarity. This looks too good to be true. And it works only under ideal weather condition.

? the HPX-250 & PX270,the FZ 1000 is a consumer camera,my tripod is not heavy enough for long distance wind filming but in this instance i am fairly happy, normaly in this location i dub sound but in this clip i left the sound from the onboard mic,in most locations i use an external mic.Yes it works only under ideal weather condition but they do happen.

That was filmed at over 4000mm i wish there was some way of achieving it with the FZ1000.

To mic this, I don't know of any other solution when you're shooting out in the water except to use a parabolic shotgun mic.
