Is the Iscorama worth it? Dispelling the myth... or "Let's Shoot it out!"

Here's another test, pardon the first and last shots of the video, I'm not sure why they both look so heavily pixelated after compression... maybe the codec breaks up? It's a pretty detailed shot, I'm not sure. (it's definitely not because it was set at f2.8 since there are other shots that are crystal in comparison to it while using the same aperture)

When stopped down to anything below f4, you'll see an increase in vertical/horizontal smearing unfortunately; however, if your focal point is not TOO close to the camera, you can get away with it. I'll show that more up close when I get the chance. More tests to come, next up is night time.

PS: The camera was mounted on a tripod but the adapter itself was handheld so I tried to align it as best as I could while I rack focused and panned (which was a PITA).

+ 1 diopter test. man these diopters don't make life easier.
canon 85mm 1.8
The last scene - I shifted the F-stop from Full open F 1.8 to F 2.8 then to F 4

+1 diopter +3 diopter stacked them (as hinted by RICH LEE)
lecia 90mm 2.8
LED Torch Light pointed into lens - in last shot , I moved the torch around talent pointing into the lens

95mm tiffen filter 0.5 diopters - are no longer in production :embarasse

Looks like big mattebox with 138mm 0.5 diopter (bloody expensive).
I hope that i can find a light cheaper option

Says I don't have permission to view the video.

Here are some pics I upload to drop.io, this was shot with Nikon 50mm 1.8 @ f2.8 iso 1250 1/50th shutter.

Will be piecing this thing together in about 15 hours when my FCP is done exporting.

First tests with the Kowa-35 1.5X

A bit confused about converting to the aspect ratio.. Going through MPEG Steamclip to a resolution of 1920x817, please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not sure about 1.5x.

Now I need to reassemble this lens for alignment..

Last night I tried my Iscorama 42 with the only B lens I can get to mount up with the stepdown rings I have on hand, which is a MF nikkor 55mm f 3.5 macro lens, which has a very deeply recessed and small front element. With a 49 to 52mm ring, it slaps right on and mates well but is not a lens I would usually pick to shoot anything at infinity with. It does some ODD things with the image and flares are weird, too.

You can see a very faint horizontal streak here, but also weird imagery around the headlights being formed that's easier to make out in the moving version, but also there are 45 degree flares appearing as well.... A real mess. This lens just isnt made to shoot at infinifty with, and this particular version is not the most pristine example, either. Some of this is Chromartic abberation, I think and other parts of the weirdness comes from light striking the corners of the ziggernaut recessed inner lens barrel, possibly. I get the feeling the image circle of the Isco is larger than the front element of the B lens, possibly. In any case, there is some stray light somewhere where it doesnt belong. In some shots you can see an odd "ring around the moon" effect as well.

I'll try to upload some video soon but the basic verdict is that this is not a good lens for the Isco 42.

Been following all the Anamorphic threads for awhile and thought I'd mention this:
E-Bay Link

It's only for folks living on the other side of the pond though(Europe).

Don't ask him how much he paid for it either. It will make you sick. Deal of the century...

I just got done re-reading all the Isco/Anamorphic threads, cause the last time I looked at them was a month or two ago.....yep it'll make you sick...wasn't it like a one bid auction ending at $400-500?....BLAH!

GREAT job on the short Akira! Lens Envy!

Edit...it's prolly in my recent browser history:
E-bay Link

I'll tell you what happens...someone here finds a little listing, and tries to contain their glee until it's over and they've won it...can't blame ya'll, cause heck, I'm hoping to do the same someday!

Hey Akira! I dated that same witch!!!! She turned ME into a NIUTE! (A NUITE?) ....."I got better..." Sincerest congrats on your 36. The universe has blessed you indeed! You deserve it. (....and there fore I must be a REAL SINNER....mine cost 3 times as much!)

Congrats Akira....nice short ....made me laugh! :)

We need to figure out ALL of the ways we can modify this lens to get the most out of it! :)

Just wondering, how dangerous do you think this stuff would be near a DSLR? http://www.xump.com/Science/MagnetStripHoldIts.cfm

OMG!!! MAGNETS!!!!!

You should be fine, lol.....if you are using micro drives you might want to avoid strong magnetic fields, but even then it should be generally ok.

Hell I know of many a folk using the Super Takumar with radioactive materials, and those images come out GREAT.....your little dinky magnetic strips ain't nuthin' but a thing :)
