Is the Iscorama worth it? Dispelling the myth... or "Let's Shoot it out!"

yeah... I only loosened 1 screw, and close focus is about at that mark... My redline mark stops at about 1/8" to the right of the white "10" mark.

some tests:

With mod:
No diopter = 3ft
+0.5 = 2ft
+1 = 1.5'
+2 = 1'

Without mod:
No diopter = 6ft
+0.5 = 3.3'
+1 = 2'
+2 = 1.5'

The pixel peeping can surely be misleading. No bitrate will grant the 5D Mark II look, count on it. The same for the 5D Mark II + Iscorama combo. It is an owner of 2x GH1 + 2x 5D Mark II who speaks. There's a total lack of clairvoyance on the matter over these boards. A good film school would be a blessing for many ;-)

It all comes down to dynamic range, the 5D doesn't have enough and the GH1 has even less.

Looks like I wont be needing my heavy vignetting (due to 82>72mm step down ring) 72mm +0.5 diopter anymore :D

Now, only a +1, +2 is really needed (or higher if need be; I might replace the +2 in my pocket for a +4). No diopters have a nice range of 3' to infinity. The +1 covers the gap between 1.5'-3', and +2 cover 1.1'-1.7ish'. The +2 isn't much of a diff from the MFD of the +1, that's why I will replace it the +2 with a +4.

Such a SIMPLE mod that literally took half a second. This has just made the 42 the most user friendly & valuable out of all the Iscoramas. No way am I trading this for any 36 or 54 Isco now, non-MC or not. Haha

I owe you a few beers ;)

Maybe not. Take a look a couple of pages later... post #26 comparison. Apart the sharper GH1 outcome (not necessarily much better for every/ANY dramatic purpose), I prefer the 5D Mark II color performance most. Along the full format DOF aka (smoother*) film texture. Where's the more cinematic GH1? LOL They're different cameras indeed.

* That's where the 5D Mark II + Iscorama combo shines. Try to apply the same 'principle' to the GH1, it seems the customer trying to deal with the vegetarian prostitute.

I am sure everyone has seen the big news about the GH1. This might have big implications for anamorphic users.

I am really interested now in buying a cheapy GH1 ..and scratch my idea on the Pana 20/1.7 or the Noktor 50/.95 ...all the old, hi-quality, heavy metal, tiny, 16mm C-Mount lenses are looking very very nice! Especially for anamorphic adapters with their super mini size and small front elements ;)

I couldn't misunderstand even why I don't profess cam wars LOL but otherwise.

My comment was towards the way your Vimeo clips have shown you don't need to shoot on a 'superior' format/setup for a 'superior' outcome ;-) even why (part II) to each its own. I mean, each one has its own personality.

I was talking about cameras, yes. But not cam comparisons. I think Kholi got the spirit :-)

Emanuel got what I was saying. Just as I got what he was saying.

Thanks.
