is the GH2 a waste of time in PAL land?

Waiting for!!

So I assume you've donated to the cause? or are you just expecting to reap the benefits?

there is a huge amount of work and and a lot that's unknown in regard to hacking the GH2 - If you want to benefit from the possibilities (and that's all they are at this stage) put some money where your mouth is.

(I've donated 3 times to the GH1 hack)

We are currently exploring one approach that could work (but with pretty low probability). I think we could know in one-two weeks for sure.

As for GH2 firmware dumping.
We need contact with proper hardware firm and some type fo sponsor to cover part of expenses.

How the GH2 PAL behaves when you reach a 29min 59sec. limit? Does it close the file and then what - starts another file automatically or waits for pressing a record button again..?

(as I understand it)
Panasonic is following EU restrictions with the minimal amount of corporate work. In the USA and most NTSC countries those restrictions don't exist. Perhaps, in addition to lobbying Panasonic, it might make sense to lobby the EU to be more sensible?

Interesting idea... the thing is though, the US has one language and stuff, whereas there are lots of different languages in the EU which could harm a single cause. My personal musings, mind.

Funnily enough I've never personally let it get to 29.59, in interviews etc i've always found a natural break and started a new file and personal projects I don't shoot for more than a minute at most usually, I treat it more like 16mm film then but if it did carry on with a new file immediately that would be quite an elegant solution!

Hmm anyone know?

Safe

Right, my clips are mostly about a minute too, but being a wildlife shooter I need sometimes to leave a camera in a field, running it as long as it can. But with PAL model you must press a button after 29.59 I've been told. And that's a robbery - you pay about 30% more for less functionality!!!

Ha ha, welcome to Europe or at least UK where "Less costs more" :)

Same here in Warsaw :-/
The more so - we pay high import customs (plus taxes) for video recorders - which is to protect European camera producers - that simply don't and didn't exist...

pray for Panasonic gods up above to receive the energy flowing from here :engel017:
anyone for a lamb sacrifice offering? young female virgin?

With the AF100 on the market, the GH2 looked like a good option as B cam, albeit its alleged higher resolution. Not anymore for the PAL lands who represents more than 50% of the potential users.
Nice one Panasonic, you just took a leaf from the Canon's past years behaviour. Even they learned a lesson from the market.

+1
the B cam failure is really good point. connecting GH2 to AF100 might convince them.
