FS7: Is the FS7 as good as the F55? Why own the F55? Opinions...

Now ow how the hell do I get rid of my noise on F55 - when exposed properly this shouldn't be happening. Right?

a good recipe for super clean images with great colour is:
Sgamut3.cine/Slog3
expose for 800 ISO
Sony "cine.709" LUT
Major difference in noise. Clean as a whistle. Especially when shot RAW.

Well, Need for Speed was a Hollywood movie and it was shot primarily on the C500, along with the 1DC,Go Pro Hero 3, and Alexa. You'll see the FS7 used in Tinseltown when it is the proper tool for the job.

As main camera? I doubt unless DP is fan of FS7 and does just for hack of it. Shane is in cahoots with canon and this is clear. He preaches canon 24/7 and is annoying actually. This is why he used Canon. But big shots was Alexa. Why you think? If not main camera than probably all cameras was used already. Even telephones.

2 things you won't get with F5/F55 - Image stabilization and speed booster. Bothy fairly significant to me.
Pluses and Minuses both ways.

All things only consumers and low end care. Think hollywood or high end care about image stabilization or pretending they are using a 5D? Stabilization they have steadicam. Now if they want 5D they have Alexa 65. But obsession with full frame for video is only with dslr shooters. Nobody else cares.

You must be a man of steel. I didnt buy Red or F5 because I considered them both too heavy for solo operation.

Or maybe you are man of wax. :cheesy:

I shoot with F35 on shoulder all day no problem. F5 is light camera. Red too.

I guess we all have different thresholds for what we consider 'heavy'. The F5 is (what I would consider) a featherweight even in a ready to shoot state(VF, top handle, shoulder mount). Yes, it could become very heavy by bolting on accessories, but they all can- DSLR, C300, FS7, etc.

I think depend if you started with pro video and film or if you started with dslr. Dslr people think all camera must be 5D size.

That's absolutely not true - it's capable of shooting anything right up to million dollar Hollywood movies - it has the spec to do it and then some. Whether it will be used much or at all for that sort of high end work is another thing, but it can do it. It's the same as saying the Nikon D3200 can't shoot a National Geographic magazine spread - virtually none of the photographers use one but that's not because it can't do it.
One of the main reasons bigger budget shows and films use more expensive gear is because they can, and in terms of of the overall daily budget the cost of the camera itself becomes tiny and so no big deal to get a relatively expensive one. A set of Zeiss primes or an Optimo zoom costs way more than ANY of these cameras! An O'Connor 2575 and sticks costs as much as an F5! The camera body cost at this level is more or less irrelevant that's why the production doesn't use cheap ones - not because the cheaper camera can't do it.

Steve

Capable is subjective. But this is not what matters. Nobody in hollywood will choose little FS7 wedding camera for hollywood feature. Why choose? They have budget for F65, Alexa, RED. Why risk hollywood film on a consumer camera? No point. Not even F55 has many hollywood movies. Why FS7?

I started in film. Only worked with film for the first ten years of my career. Kodak Motion Imaging has been a client of mine for years. So, I think I'm well placed to write that your comment above is complete B***S***.

Having just received my FS7 I can say that it's far from the build quality of the PMW cameras. In a way it's a toy camera made in China which equals less quality.

You then exception to rule. Happens.

But you like 5D size now because you advanced age now and have back problems? If you started with film is long time ago right. Small buttons = hard to use. My opinion of course and not yours so maybe for this reason is indeed B***S***

Refreshing read realistic opinion from FS7 owner.

Lol my age has nothing to do with it! And I use lots of different cameras for different applications. Get some perspective...

So why is small always better? Give me your eenlightened perspective.

My wife says small is better, ask her...

But it feels cheaper than other laptops? China is not why FS7 feels cheap. It just feels cheap. What can you do?

It feels pretty decent for an $8000 camera. If I paid six times that amount I'd expect it to feel like an Amira, but I didn't, so I'm not going to worry about it.

Probably. Judge for yourself.. :) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B2FFYfpCQAAv6oX.jpg:large

The thing about weight is so much how you shoot.

Ive not used an F35 but all the others are fine on the shoulder when in a 'production' environment.

But I want a mobile camera.

Now lets do a shot of someone lying on their back, camera pointing straight down, or maybe handheld in a vehicle or held over a desk while filming somone at their keyboard.. or let us go on a demo in Central London, get there using public transport then eight hours on the feet and climb up some walls to get a high angle. Then weight counts.

Ok now the cop out. ok.

This is different talk. Feel cheap is feel cheap. For you cheap feel ok because only $8k. Subjective. But if feel cheaper than PMW then $8k argument hold no water. Sorry.
