FS7: Is the FS7 as good as the F55? Why own the F55? Opinions...

Of course there are many interpretations of 'normal camera man'

To me this is my chums from the BBC who shoot 2/3 ENG cam on chunky sticks in the main - they are a 'normal camera man'

Now those guys shoot to a kind of style - often knocking off details with their big ENG lens - not a bad style.

But there is a more personal way of shooting - shorter lenses, in tight, over head, low mode held over shots whatever far more fast moving and physical.

Anyway we both know perfectly what these cameras do. F35 is not too big for a film crew on a movie, and goPro is the right thing to bolt to your head.

As ever it is the grey middle ground that is hard to argue.

Personally I like saving some mass - the FS7 gives a great image for the size and that to me is a good thing.

If it was 50% lighter (like the FS100) I would personally like it even more!

Of course we have many interpretation for normal camera man. But I didn't mean tv camera man etc. I mean just adult person. I disagree F35 need full crew. I shoot hand held with F35 all day and I think is no harder than with eng camera. Only difference is no zoom. But weight is not worse. But you right no point in arguing grey area. For me is just funny see people say F55 is big and heavy. Maybe they never had arri 435 or F900 on shoulder. For me F55 is small. This is why I said people thinking F55 is big and heavy must be dslr shooters. It was not dissing.

SJX, it's obvious you have a dislike towards Sony F and FS cameras. If you don't like the camera, you stated your position (over and over) so please move on.

You are an anonymous poster who has no links to your work. How do we know if you have any idea on what you are talking about? How do we know you are not just trolling everyone? Even if your work was brilliant and you were Roger Deakins himself, nobody would care because of your overly aggressive and discourteous attitude towards everyone on here.

You don't need a new camera, you need anger management classes and better medication.

What is this anger and aggressive accusations? Is because I'm direct? Or maybe my language limit? Believe me I'm not angry when I'm writing this.

Not true I dislike Sony F cameras. I own a Sony F. I have F35 and also like F65 a lot. Yes I don't see nothing on FS700 or FS100 but FS7 not bad camera at all. If you shoot wedding, corporate, run and gun etc of course FS7 is better buy than F55. It only get funny when people say FS7 is as good as F55. Then I can't voice my opinion against hype?

But I would buy FS7 instead of C100 or C300 or C500 for sure.

You right I'm talentless nobody. I can only wish I was talented like Ed, Hunter, Miguel, Starcentral Dennis or Nate. Maybe one day I will be. But I know what I want. I don't want video look and is not only light, composition, grading etc. Camera that look like video makes all harder. I don't want plastic skin too.

So you lie to your clients?

They must be very dumb to look FS7 and F5 and think FS7 is better. F5 look more professional even for dumb client know nothing of cameras. :)

Lighten up. I was being tongue in cheek.

So your position is that this isn't a professional looking camera to clients?-

Bollocks. Being in the position where the appearance of your camera, and not the images you create with your camera, is what get's you hired isn't a good position to be in. My clients could care less what my camera looks like. If I create great images with a Fischer Price toy camera and I am pleasurable to work with my clients are going to hire me again.

You appear to feel threatened by the title of the thread starter. I do think the title was poor wording in that the question the OP was really asking was- "What features of the F55, if any, justify spending over 4x the price of an Fs7?". The F55 is no doubt a more sophisticated camera. A "better" camera, if you must. But is it four times better than the Fs7? How many clients or potential clients are going to demand the features the F55 possesses that the Fs7 lacks? If the Fs7 can offer clients internal 4k, 180fps HD, ProRes HQ 422...what percentage of clients or potential clients are going to want more than that? What percentage are going to demand global shutter or a "wider color gamut"?

For whatever reason you have a massive chip on your shoulder in regard to the Fs7 and in your belittling of the Fs7 you belittle anyone who chose to purchase one. And BTW, that cheap plastic toy "wedding camera" has a body made of magnesium that, unlike the body of the F5, is weather sealed. And you, mate, are all wet.

I'm not talented - I just read a lot of books, watch a lot of movies, read this forum and other camera nerd forums and work with talented people. Let's not get all nasty y'all. Keep this place civil. Sarcasm is hard to read in written form written by strangers.

What know it all attitude? Only because I speak my opinion?

Steve is not my fault if you post bashing a camera with sarcasm and don't check your info and don't like people correcting you and throwing your sarcasm back. If you don't like this don't post this then. Is time to get over that.

That's the thing you don't seem to get, and I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that maybe it is indeed a language iss - but you don't give opinions, you state them as facts - you said "the original question is answered: the answer is No" - that's not an opinion dude.

Where was my sarcasm? What camera did I bash? I'm definitely not beneath sarcasm, but I don't remember any in this thread and don't emember bashing any cameras...I'll leave that up to you. And, incidentally, I don't own any camera at the moment so have absolutely no axe to grind.

Steve

More importantly, on a forum where there is such a massive range of experience, talent and knowledge from absolute beginner to very experienced DPs or ENG guys, someone who gives such big sweeping statements writing off the capabilties of a camera system but who doesn't have any point of reference for other people to gauge their experience/talent/knowledge level means their opinions - which in this case they seem to be the only one holding - don't really carry much weight.

In the very first exchange of opinions or ideas I guess,

But just as an example, the moment I started reading interesting things you posted I checked out your site and videos and made the assessment that even if I were to disagree with you about something - not sure I have yet - I know you are coming from place of having knowledge and skill with your tools that you obviously know what you're doing and what you are talking about, and so I am more likely to listen to your opinion than someone who hasn't offered any constructive opinion/advice that I've seen, and who certainly hasn't posted any work that might support some of the claims he has made.

To be honest it's the same methodology I apply to reading film reviews. Any time I see someone screaming with hyperbole about how something that is a perfectly serviceable if unspectacular movie is the worst film they have ever seen the first question that pops into my head is 'well what other films have they seen so I have a yardstick?'
