Is Premier the best editing software?

Download the demos and play around with them. Figure out what works best for you. Don't let anyone tell you what to use. As seejay said, it's totally subjective.

well, I thought maybe I could get the best, and learn it.

I have Vegas, Avid, and Premiere at my disposal and I use Premiere. Does that make it the best? No, but it's the best for me. Maybe I'm just used to it. Vegas is good, I think if I really got to know it I would use it a lot more. Avid has a steep learning curve, but it's the pro's choice.

I like Premiere because of it's integration with After effects, Encore, Photoshop, and Audition. Like Fixit said, try the demos. One might jump out at you...and you'll fall in love. Sweet love.

ive been using premiere for about 3 years now, and tired to swich to vegas but i just coudlnt get into the vegas workflow, stick with what you know. All the nle's are great its up to the user and his imagination to make his project stand out.
Premiere was modeled after FCP so that should give you some insite. If i ever decide to switch to MAC, the learning curve on FCP will be easy, shmeazy!

That's the reason why I use premiere because it's so close to final cut in terms of appearance. I plan to eventually go to a MAC so I wanted the best transition possible.

so I shouldn't get vegas as well right, adobe premier 2.0 is all I need?

It never hurts to know more than one NLE, but if you're going to be editing on a steady basis I'd probably learn one that meets your needs and go with that. I used to be a Premiere user until I got my DVX. Premiere is buggy and PPro 1.5 didn't handle 24pA footage very well. So I switched to Vegas. Was it difficult to switch? Yes. Like Saturnin said, it's difficult to get used to another app. But once you figure out your way around, most NLE's have the same or similar functions. It is a tool, nothing more. Learn what meets your needs and go with that. If for some reason my workflow changed, say I got an HVX and something handled the HD better, then I would consider switching to another NLE. I'll just go with what others have recommended in that you should try them out and see what fits your needs.

Speaking of premier, anyone know any good free training websites? I found one once, looked for it again and couldn't find it, my browser keeps messing up by erasing my history.

Depends on who's using it.

Everyone always ask if I edit on an Avid, I tell them all Adobe! Adobe is good, , Final Cut Pro is good, Avid is good, Vegas is good, its the damn user.

okay, I've been playing with premier 2.0, and all I can say is that..its way too hard for me, lol..yeah, I know it requires learning..so Ill keep playing with it, t'll then I wanna try out other programs too..if any of you would be gentle enough to name me some besides:

Vegas 6.0
Avid
Final Cut Pro

I can honestly say that Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 is the BEST software . . . at CRASHING!

Just out of curiosity, where you using a h/w accelerator card with PPro 1.5? I don't think I've ever had 1.5 crash on me even with large projects involving 100s of clips. But then I've always just used a basic PC.

I've never had it crash on me either. And that's during intense projects with well over 1000 clips.

I just like premiere due to how it meshes pretty seamless with the other adobe apps. Is it the best? Probably not, but since so many people use AE and PS for other parts of design, then I would say that premeir does the best in bringing it all together.
