Is P2 Viewer the only one?

Hey all,

I am new to the forum but have been reading a long time. I just shot a test music video a few days ago. I had (1) 16gb P2 card and transfered directly to ex HDD through the host mode on the camera. That worked fine. I then took the HDD home and backed them up to another ext HDD.

We are waiting for our Mac editing system to be shipped so the only way I can view the MXF files is by using P2 Viewer on my windows Laptop. P2 Viewer has not worked right for me. I set the virtual P2 cards and they are checked off but it never adds those mxf files to the library even refreshing a few times. It works some of the time but not all the time.

I just want to make sure all of my clips are there and ok. Is there any other "free" or trial program that I can use to view the mxf files??

I do not prefer the P2 viewer and the P2CMS program does not work either.

I tried searching for this answer but most everythin pointed to the P2 Viewer.

Thanks all

Thanks Noah,

I just checked it out and it looks like Raylight is a plug in? I do not have an NLE on my windows laptop so I am looking for a stand alone program.

Not sure- I believe it adds the ability to open MXF on a system level but that's more a Barry Green question. I'm the Mac Guy. :badputer:

You probably haven't set your view menu to show the secondary bin. Take a quick tour through the P2 Viewer manual, it makes things much more obvious as to how the program works. The manual gets installed in the same directory that the P2 Viewer program got installed.

Barry, nothing

Barry, nothing

Barry,

Thanks for your response. I did try switching it to secondary bin but nothing changes. I have looked through the instructions up and down and nothing seems to work. I know the files are there because they come up and I did not delete anything, the contents folder, last clip text and all the folders are there.

I guess P2 viewer is it then? there are no other programs that can let you view your MXF files?

The free version of DVFilm Maker can play back MXF files without sound
by dragging one into the application.

Also if you use the free version of Raylight Ray Maker to convert the
MXF files to AVI, the AVI's will then play in Windows Media Player, with sound.

Did you set your secondary bin to "show virtual cards"? And then did you register your directory as a virtual card? And did you make sure to register the directory that holds the CONTENTS directory, and not the CONTENTS directory itself? i.e., you'd register C:\VIDEOS\CARD1 and not C:\VIDEOS\CARD1\CONTENTS.

THe other free program for viewing the MXF files (on Windows) is P2CMS.
