Is it possible to shoot video on the D7000 with the lens detached?

I have been experimenting with the detached lens effect (also known as lens whacking and freelensing) on my GH1 and it gives a pretty cool effect.

See this clip to get an idea of what technique I am talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLDMeqBCHs4&feature=channel_video_title

I want to move on to the D7000 but it says in the manual that if you remove the lens from the body it will disable Live View and stop recording.

Is this effect possible on the D7000? Anyone ever tried it? I cant find any video examples of the effect done with a D7000.

If I were to use a vintage Nikon manual focus lens, could I pull this off? To put it another way, if I were to use a lens without electronic contacts, would the camera know that I had removed the lens and disable Live View?

They don't want you to do it, but it certainly is possible with manual glass :) http://vimeo.com/20171892. Just make sure you shooting full manual and your set.

Do you go into Live View with the lens detached or do you start off with it attached and then remove the lens? I have a bunch of old manual glass so this is good news. The manual says that Live View will stop if you remove the lens but I guess this is only true if the lens has Nikon compatible electronic contacts.

I've seen several pinhole videos with the D90, using a body cap and foil, so it may be possible with the 7000. I've shot videos on my D90 with all sorts of pre-AF glass with no trouble. Finally got a Canon though, the Jello was making me seasick - I understand the D7000 is better and I'll be upgrading in a few weeks.

I've shot on my T2i with a lens sawed off a Holga plastic camera and it looked very cool. The lens was actually attached to my rod system and just pushed up against the body opening.

you most certainly can shoot video with the lens detached (I just tried doing it to check ;D)

EDIT:

Do you go into Live View with the lens detached or do you start off with it attached and then remove the lens? I have a bunch of old manual glass so this is good news.

Turn the camera off, remove the lens, turn the camera back on, switch to live view, press record :)
