Is it possible to get lowlight footage like COLLATERAL and ZODIAC on a DSLR?

But...I've always thought they still needed to light that movie properly. Some of those scenes were too dark to me. As good as that camera is one would still need lighting.

True, but I'm glad he shot it that way rather than with lights, to show us what is possible.

You're right. That was his main reason for shooting it that way....basically to show us the capabilities of the camera.

Edit: In regards to M Mann....I think if any one of these DSLRs were around at the time of Miami Vice he would have been happy to give-em-a-go.

There was minor noise reduction done in Vincents MK IV video btw, he was upfront about it but not many people payed attention to it.

Yeah, wish he would post a tutorial on how they graded it and reduced the noise, with before and after shots. He said he would, but that was last year :(

5D is still pretty soft at f/8. Maybe 1D mk IV would be better bet?

Ben, I just wanted to thank you for this suggestion. It turns out that our film school has on order several DSLRs, including a 1D Mk IV! Should be here by the end of the month. No doubt there'll be a waiting list to use it at first, but after a while I'm sure only the dedicated will want to borrow it overnight and I'll be set.

Will be sure to let you know how it goes. Thanks again!
