Is it me or does the 50 shutter @ 24p on DSLR's look choppy?

I know its standard do to the 48/180 degree shutter (copying film). But it looks so darn choppy compared to 30 shutter. It looks higher than 48-50 shutter. Almost like 120 at times. The 30 looks smoother to me - more so like film. People say it looks like DVX footage but I beg to differ. Am I alone on this?

you are not alone,i had this issue too,but ive seen movies on plasma TV and these are choppy as well, bluerays on lcd monitor are choppy too but are smooth on crt TV,also distance from footage and size of it makes huge difference, you probably are accustomed to movies seen on small CRT TV.Anyway shutter 30 looks disgusting and should be prohibited by cinematographers law.

your screen likely doesn't display 24p properly
i only use 180eq. in narrative pieces, with GH2 i mostly shoot 30s to get "rid" of the 24 strobing when shooting 1080p, on Canon i think 40 tends to look good, just be carefull with strobing from light sources

There's always room for experiment ;)
