im gonna be buying a dvx 100b from a man but the lcd screen is broken and i was curious if its easy to do work with just the eyepiece

Oh you're getting it? It's a bit harder to judge exposure and stuff in the viewfinder but then you can use the zebra stripes... Ya I think it's an expensive fix. How much are you getting it for? Down the road you can get an external monitor for it.

Actually, it's a lot easier to judge exposure and focus in a monochrome viewfinder. Turn your EVF to high detail and turn the color off.

That's all the big cameras had to go on for decades (still do). You get better resolution when you take the color information away, and can judge exposure better on greyscale.

That said, on the smaller cameras, the EVF isn't always as practical because the shooting style has been adapted to use the LCD (and because a camera that isn't shoulder-mounted doesn't keep the eye piece against the face). Since the DVX100b is still made by Panasonic, you might check with them to see what the fix will cost. Then add that to what you'll be paying for the camera. If it's still a good deal at that point, go for it.

there is a sizing chart on the website, but I think it is the large oval one. Don't quote me on that, look at the chart.

ryvac is hating because he doesn't have one or just didn't like it. I love mine, it makes it a treat to use the viewfinder.

i think ryvac's talkin about the broken dvx..correct?

btw ryvac... do u have any work online i could see? i always talk to you on the forums but i dont think ive seen something from you. would luv to see your stuff if u do :)

I missread this. I didn't realize you were buying a dvx with a broken lcd. Don't do it. You can try to save money, but on a dvx you just gotta bite the bullet and put down the money.

I almost might wait for the hmc150 to drop in price. I am waiting for panny to revise the hmc150 acouple times, before I buy it, just like they did with the dvx.

i plan to get the hmc next year. I just dont need HD now and i dont think i have even tapped into the dvx yet...plus i wanna get my blade and light kit and some other stuff first.
