I was wondering, once pulldown is removed it's progressive right? So is it called 23.97 or 24p? Because Avid has 24p timeline and then 23.97 timeline. Why would it still be 23.97 and not rounded up to 24p even though pulldown was removed and it is progressive?

And then also brings me to ask, I tried to capture footage on the 24p timeline but Avid didn't want to let me, I could only capture my footage at 23.97. What is 24p for?

there are 29.97 frames per second in what we call 30 frames per second. This is why drop frame was invented and it carries on downward to all fps intervals.

select cameras actually do shoot 24p.

but is there a way to remove pulldown so it becomes full 24 progressive frames...so 24p and not 23.97? Would there be an advantage to doing that?

No, it will be 23.976. But this isn't a problem.

Actual 24 fps would be film or a very expensive video camera.
