Is DVX100B History ??

Was talking to a salesman at Willoughbys, an authorized Panasonic dealer, this morning and he tells me the DVX100B is being replaced. He did not know with what.
I just receiced a DVX yesterday from J & R Music ;which said they were an authorized dealer. The camera will not register, so it's going back.

So what is the new "DVX100B" ?

Thanks

There have been no announcements about any replacement. While it's reasonable to assume that they're working on a high-def replacement for all their standard-def models, there's been no indication of when any such products might come out. As far as I know, the DVX100B is still a current model.

THERE IS NO TRUTH TO THIS. I've just called the product line manager for the DVX100B, and she said that if Willoughby's said that, they were probably trying to switch you over to some other product that they had in-stock.

The DVX100B is still a current model and is intended to remain a current model.

There have been supply issues because there was an earthquake in Japan where the CCDs are manufactured, so there's been a shortage of DVXs. That supply is expected to be fully restored in the next month or so, definitely by the end of July.

Maybe he wanted you to buy something they had rite there rather than buy something they dont have.

Thanks
Interestingly he didn't try to switch, took my name and number and said he would call when the replacement came in.

I wonder too even if Pansonic came out with a new HD model do you think they would keep making the SD model DVX100)? Sony has plenty of HD cams and you can still buy the PD-170.

If there is still a market and they are making money would they stop? I guess at some point they would.

The DVX 100b is still the current model for the panasonic's sd cameras... maybe the person you spoke with was referring to the HVX replacing the 100b?? dunno... is it about that time?? the fall of standard definition? a new thread even?? I hope not because i'm currently working on my own standard def feature shot on the DVX100p the originals!! standard def lives on!!!

Yeah, I totally agree with you HorseFilms, most people who are shooting HD right now are doing so foolishly as many have no real way of distribution.

Im not sure what so great about sd, hd is definitely better, Its just not as well developed nor established yet, higher resolution is always something we will want to achieve....

Could Panasonic just be coming out with a new improved proconsumer SD model just with no tape?

And did you ask Jan if this means a AVC HD DVX is coming? DID YOU? DID YOU? And what did she say? Spill the beans, Barry.

Sorry, man. I'm still jonesing for any, and I mean ANY, hint that this camera will come into existence...or will it exist only in the mind of Barry Green? :D I was hoping the short supply of DVXs was a harbinger, heralding the arrival of the new king of camcorders - the AVC HD DVX, instead it was just some stupid act of God earthquake. Oh, well. Anybody else have any rumors about the demise of the mighty DVX, and the rise of the AVC HD DVX? The king is dead. Long live the king! Hey, I'm living on rumors these days.

Are you kidding? high definition footage is far and away the best way to make productions intended for standard def. you shoot HD, edit, CC, Composite, then master in HD. then you down res to SD for DVD distrobution. It will look 10X better than working in a SD only environment. My personal feeling is this. You aquisition medium should be 2x better than your end medium. HD is the natural choice for SD productions, the workslow is similar, and cheaper than Film. If your final product is HD i would say shoot film. if your endproduct is a film release print, shoot anamorphic S35. The post production process can really mush up footage. the higher quality the initial medium is the easier it will be to maintain quality in the end.

They're definitely going to introduce more AVC-HD (tapeless) models. But so far all the AVC-HD cams have been little pocketcams, nobody's produced a serious prosumer/pro AVC-HD camera.

Hmmm, no, somehow I forgot to ask... :)

Dude, I've asked that question so many times that her ears are bleeding. But if there's anything coming, I'm not getting the slightest hint of it.

I feel that I can safely say that there definitely will be something like that; it's only obvious that the market will demand such a product. But as to what it'll be, what it'll cost, when it'll exist (this year? Next year? 2009?) there's no promises, no pre-announcements, no anything like that.

or will it exist only in the mind of Barry Green? :D
I'm starting to get the idea that yeah, maybe that's all there is to it. But I can't believe that'd be true; it's just so obvious that that's what we need/want and that it'd be a smash hit. Frankly I can't see them soldiering on into 2009 still riding the DVC30 and DVX100. There's a gap in their lineup. A big gap. But as to when it'll be filled, nobody's talking. This year they've totally, thoroughly revamped their high-end lineup, so maybe 2008 will revamp the low end?

Went to the Panasonic camcorders web page. They have four types of camcorders on this page. Three out of these four pages have "Coming soon" models on them. Is this a sign of something new coming?

Barry I wonder if it has to do with the incorporation of cmos. Seems so far anything CMOS has had one issue or another. Maybe theres still a little way to go.

Hi,

The DVX100B is not discontinued, it will be in production for a long time to come. As long as there is a need for a nice DV camera, this product has legs. It is the nicest DV camera in the market with the latest in technology. Nothing has been introduced sice it came out that makes it wanting.

Are we working on other AVCHD cameras, yes, are they coming out this year, I don't think so. What do they do< well I still don't know as it is not my product line and I have to sit in on my own meetings.

Just be assured that the fellow at Willoughbys is just outstandingly misinformed.

Best,

Jan
