Is DV / HDV recorded on a Canon A1 able to be played back on a Sony Z1 & others...?

Hi there,

I'm considering getting a Canon A1.

Is DV / HDV recorded on a Canon A1 able to be played back (captured) using a Sony Z1 & other consumer cameras...? i.e is dv & hdv standard?

1)SD (dvcam)?
2)HDV (1080i)?
3)HDV 25f (1080f progressive)?

Is it also possible to capture Z1 footage using a Canon A1, in DV and HDV?

DV, yes.

HDV 1080/50i and HDV 1080/60i, yes.

HDV 1080/25F, 24F, and 30F: NO. Only a Canon HDV camcorder can play back those modes.

Yes.
 
I should also put in, no 1080 HDV equipment will play any 720P HDV footage, nor will any 720P HDV equipment play any 1080 HDV footage. There's a minor exception in that a Sony FX1 can display 720/30P footage but it won't let you digitize it.
