Is buying a 5Dmkii a better bet right now over a 6D?

I agree they should have included 60p and since it's not weather sealed a flip out screen. I don't think either of those features would have effected sales of the MK3 or their high end video gear, and would dramatically up sales, but as the camera is now, I think it will tank sooner than later.

They probably had a price point they were trying to hit and those features (especially flip screen and weather seal) might have driven it above that.

Actually my point was since it's not weather sealed there would be no reason why a flip screen couldn't be added without raising production costs. They are on every lower cost Canon going all the way back to the Powershot. I think a flip out screen would have made this camera more appealing as a daily driver which is where this camera fits in. I've had a 60D with me since it was launched and I don't want to go back to crawling on the ground to get a low angle shot. In the case of a FF the 5Dmk2 makes more sense because at least it's tough enough to take what ever mother nature has in for it. A 5D will outlast one of the cheaper bodies. My 60D is really showing wear with the rubber pealing off. The 6D may turn out to have the same build quality.

Also debating this. Im leaning very heavily toward the 5d mk ii. They main sticking points for me were that the LCD only shows 97% of the composition and that the moire looks worse. On the other side though, what do you think are the odds of Magic Lantern being able to close the gap between the 6d and the mk iii?

I bought a 5d MKII a few weeks ago, in very good condition. It paid for itself with the first long term rental. You can't beat that.

I'll just post my experiences being in a similar situation...

I've owned three 5dmk2 bodies. The first one overheated in video, the 2nd one had a banding issue on the sensor, and the 3rd (that I've shot with all 2012) finally died after not starting up once in a while. Sent in for repair, get it back "fully working" and a repair bill for looking at it.

I bought the 5dmk3, but felt that the features was overkill for me and the cost too high so I returned it. The video is good out of the 5dmk3 but not *that* good... for stills though Very fast AF and a joy to shoot with, loved the menues and the overall feel of it. I'm now waiting for a Canon 6D to arrive and will make a video review.

Sell all your DSLRS and buy one of the Sony NEX cameras ... like the VG10, VG20, VG30 or for full frame VG900.

They are made for video unlike these photo cameras that are being used for video.

I'm willing to out on a limb here and assume if the OP wanted a sony he would mentioned it in the thread title or his post.

All of those have a worse image quality than the 5dmarkIII probably even worse than the 6d. Also no capability for image tuning, no magic lantern etc

I wouldn't be so sure of the Mk III advantages over a Sony FS100. And certainly not over the soon coming Blackmagic camera, which draws rings over the Mark III.

IMHO the 5D Mk III is completely overpriced for what it has to offer over the 5D MK II, which was more affordably priced.
