just testing for a live to disc shoot tomorrow. i plugged my HPX170 into the firewire400 port of my macpro, launched onlocation and hit record.

BAM! it recorded! seemed also to detect the format, frame rate etc right from the cam with no help from me.

is it really this simple? if so, COOOOOOLLLLLLL : )

yes i think so, i am a xp user and its as simple as you explain for me as well:)But i couldn't find out how to record on QT format. It only records avi format...

yup, thats it. Cars can park themselves, cameras can record without tape, and your laptop can detect and record live video with one click!!!!! welcome to the 21st Cent. :) What happens next?

Yeah, I think that's right . . . OL will not record the QT format on a PC.

Glad to hear you're all impressed with the ease of use.
One thing to add: You can record to the AVI or QT format on Mac or Windows. To make this selection, open the flyout menu for the Field Monitor (by clicking the little icon w/ 4 lines in the panel's upper right corner) and go to the Recording File Format submenu.

Keep the feedback coming! Bad & good...

im now having sync issues with the 94 minute clip. on my FCP station it was 3 frames out of sync. on my clients near identical system it was fine. but when they add graphic overlay then it goes out of sync...?

im stumped.

Please HELP! When I go to the flyaway menu to change the recording File Format my options are grayed out!!! I have a full version that I bought and not a trial version.

What type of video are you shooting? If it's HDV, then it's by design that all the options are unavailable; HDV can be recorded only to the M2T format.

thanks for this starting this thread, i actually forgot that i even had onlocation and that it came with my adobe bundle i bought last summer. wow. it's still in the box. i've been so used to using my p2 cards forgot i had this option which i actually need soon for a concert shoot.
