Is a Glidecam HD-1000 the best steadycam for a 550D/T2i?

Is a Glidecam HD-1000 the best choice for a 550D? Do I get anything better in the 400€ pricerange?
Is the 1000 as steady as the 2000 Glidecam?
What other choices do I have?

Look into the Flycam as well. Its like a cheaper version of the Glidecam and as long as you get the quick release plate youre pretty much set. I have one and found for the price it is absolutely brilliant! There are numerous videos of examples online. Check some out.

If I were going to get one today, I would probably choose the 1000 unless you have a bunch of auxillary gear that you want to mount with it, like rails, recorder and matte box. I had a 2000 with my 60d and while it was ok, It still needed quite a bit of weight to be balanced. If you're going for a small, portable package, the 1000 I think is the way to go. I have owned both a Pro4000 and HD 2000, the 4000 was way too top heavy, thus needing a bunch of extra & needless weight on it. If you plan to upgrade and put stuff on later, the 2000 will allow you to grow a bit and still be very usable, but the 1000 is plenty sufficient for most DSLR users. One thing that saved me and I highly recommend is the forearm brace. Sure it would be nice to have a full arm and harness, but the forearm brace takes a lot of strain off of your hand and distributes it, and you can usually find one in the $100 to $150 range.

Go with the 2000, it gives you the option to future-proof yourself.
The added range of the 2000 over the 1000 allows for changing cameras, adding a mic or a range of other possibilities.
Do not pay attention to people who say the 550 is too light for the 2000. They are wrong.
