C300: is a 4K upgrade to the C300 technically possible the way Sony did with the F5???

Ever since Sony offered the 4K upgrade to its F5 camera for $1K, I've been wondering whether this might be technically possible on the C300 given that it has a 4K sensor. Now Canon may have no plans to ever do so. But could it be done on the C300, or is it technically impossible to do on that camera?

Because if it were, I'm sure a lot of us would sooner pay an extra $1K rather than buy a C300 Mark II just to get the 4K option.
In the two years I've been shooting with the C300, I've found it to be such a wonderful camera in so many areas, that I can't think of one thing it could improve on except for adding 4K, and perhaps more super slow motion options, and an expanded ISO range.

C300 doesn't have the processing power for 4K or 10bit. two things I would hope Canon would put into C300II.

Canon is banking on that feeling to try and get users to upgrade to C300II and 4K. What I find interesting is trying to figure out just where Canon will draw the line with the C300 and the upper ends of their line. Canon usually has very distinct tiers and features and we have seen where the C100II sits feature wise. I was surprised they kept 50mbs mxf for C300I/C300II and above going forward.

That's what I thought too. Though I can't imagine Canon not adding 4K to a C300 Mark II, or a 1DC successor, if they cost anywhere near what the C300 and 1DC did when they were first released.

I've always found it interesting that the C300 and C500 both have the same image processor, the DIGIC DV III.
I suspect the C500s' extra power is due to extra hardware that is in the little box where the handle should be? In which case the C300 probably can't be firmware upgraded.

Although the basic form factor is the same, the guts inside the C100, the C300 and the C500 have a LOT of differences. There is definitely a bunchmore going on in the C500.

Valuable info Mitch. Because some bloggers believe the C500 is just a C300 with a firmware unlock, even going as far as saying the removal of the grip/extra fan is just for marketing and unnecessary.
