Is 28mm wide enough?

I'd say (w/o knowing exactly how wide you'd want to go) you'd prolly want a we bit wider than that.

I wants that sh++ wide!

The crop only applies when talking photography, not reall when talking film. Anywhere between 17-21 is decently wide.

Crop factor applies in still and video modes for DSLRs.

17-21 not wide enough in a DSLR with crop sensors.

My 11-16 just barely does the job on our cameras.

Our 15-30 is ok ish but not as good as the 11-16.

Among our commercial work are tourism promos and real estate corporates. Wide is staple in our field. If your doing narratives and shorts, maybe 17 is ok.

I don't do too much wide stuff, but when i want to go semi-wide i use the Zeiss 21mm, probably one of their best lenses. If I need wider, the 18mm, but you get a little bit of distortion on the 7D even with the crop factor

crop factor,but its still like in 3 perf film frame.
cinema lenses are made for ssuper 35mm film frame ,as big as canon 1d sensor.But still lenses are made for full frame.50mm cinema lens and 50mm still lens would show the same field of view on 7d /550d because it has 3 perforation movie frame like sensor.The same size.
So crop factor dont really apply here like in photographs because movie frame have the size of 7d /550d sensor.. and films shot in full frame is rarity ,long time ago.

I'd say maybe that's wide enough for some folks on a 5D with the full FOV but on a 7D or T2i I'd say not even close to 'wide enough' for every application. I'd go down to 18 or even 12 for the really really wide stuff when you have to face that FOV crop on your smaller sensored cameras.

one of the best wide lenses you can by is the Tonkia 11-16 f/2.8.
Fantastic lens.
and I agree with all of them, 28 is going to leave you wanting more (or backing up)
