Certain fabric dyes make this happen. Having done several more tests I can bring any black that has turned brown back to black with a change in gamma and matrix settings. You can see the change occur on your onboard lcd and external monitor.
The picture profile adjustments are enormous in the EX cameras.
In Barry Greens EX1 and 300 IR shootoff he said he used the same settings for both cameras. He doesn't say what specific settings. Whats also left out of that description is the fact that settings from different cameras and companies are not all alike and will not act alike. I know that the pp setting adjustments of the EX1 could make blacks black because I have done it.
You don't need a filter if you're willing to make changes in your picture profiles. The Red digital cinema camera for instance has to have a filter because it shoots RAW and cannot be tuned in like the EX.
I suggest anyone concerned find the combination of settings in your picture profiles especially your gamma and matrix so you can tune it in when needed. If the colors aren't what you like with these adjustments you can easily add in post
