does it have the ability to pick up infrared light?
basically can i get an IR flashlight or a mountable one for the shoe and have it picked up by the camera
how do the guys from Ghost Hunters do it? I know they use DVXs
The Beam splitter Prism in a 3CCD camera sends only the specific wavelengths of each color to each chip. As IR is a different wavelength to the 3 primary colors of light, it can physically not pass through the prism to a sensor to be detected.
The reason it works with 1-chip cameras is because they don't' have a prism to filter the light. The CCD already picks up the IR wavelengths in addition to visible light. 1-chip camera actually use a filter to BLOCK IR light when not in "night-shot" mode! The IR abilities of 1-chip cameras are purely a side-effect that has been (cleverly) turned into a feature.
To check if a camera can shoot IR, point a IR remote control (like the one form your TV) at the lens and look through the viewfinder. If the camera can see IR, you will see the IR-LED on the remote flashing. If the camera can't see IR; it will see nothing - just as your eye.
