The easy answer is no.
As far as I know it's not possible for any ipod to accept a video input, let alone HD. I bet you could hack one up and give it a shot and probably make it work with some knowhow, but it wouldn't be worth the trouble nor a perfectly good ipod.

We have one, and the answer is no adapter exists, nor is likely to exist.

An iPod wouldn't have enough resolution to focus anyway so what's the point? (unless you were shooting SD?)

Use an Archos if you want that functionality. I let the director have it, he can record everything in SD while I shoot in HD. Then he can review the shots without getting in my way. The Archos 504 is native 16:9 as well.
I'd never use it to focus, but it's a great way to put the director's mind at ease.
