iPhone or Sidekick LX

Until The Iphone gets 3G speed I'm not interested. It would be even better if they opened up the service to other (and better) carriers like Verizon.

i thought the same thing, until i watched my friend use youtube over edge network. there was no waiting for the download. i mean the second you click on a youtube video, it starts playing. no delay. plenty fast. so, why does it matter if it's 3G or not? sure Verizon has 400k down, but what good is that if the handsets do not support applications that demand that kind of speed? the moto Q for instance does not "do" youtube. or at least i could not get it to work.. also, the "my location" feature on google maps doesn't work on my moto Q. however it works great on my ipod touch and (presumably) on the iphone. so, again who cares if 3G service is faster than edge if the phone does not support location data (or at the very least, be compatible with googles free service?)

(thinking of switching to iPhone)

I have one, supposeddly shouldn't but I do. Its not better than an HTC phone for e-mail and attachment management, or a pocket PC, for the matter. However, it has a fantastic user interface, the touch screen is unmatched, the glass screen is simply wonderful, with PSP like crispness to it.

If you do video, you can pull one out as an excelent calling card.

And it has component video out, with 16/9 video output capabilities.

This is an excelent life saver for presentations.

And the Ipod functionality and integration with Itunes is seamless. Being a mac user, it works just like any other ipod (assuming you have update 1.1.3 installed and the itunes software updated to 7.6)

Overall, an excelent phone for anyone working in Video/Photo/Music- its a great portable portfolio due to its excelent screen.

It is, however, a phone with average to a little bit above average capabilities, with a weak integrated camera and limited bluetooth functionality, as well as no 3g (which makes no sense nowadays)

Because the iphone on the ATT network is a great PDA but sucky phone.

My phone has to be a great PHONE first, everything else is secondary.

What makes it a sucky phone? I'm just curious, I just switched from verizon to one and I can say the service crushes what I used to have.

It all depends what you want in a cell phone.

I have a Sidekick LX (been "sidekicking" since II) and love it. It does so many simple things really well and the interface becomes second nature. The screen in the LX is a miniaturized Sharp Aquos. It keeps me organized and connected with what matters most to me on the go.

What turns me off most about the iPhone, ironically, is the touchscreen. I like tactile keys.

Thanx to everyone that shared their opinions. This is actually my first post from safari on the iPhone. $541 with tax and loving it.
cheers y'all.

I bought a 16GB iPhone a couple of days ago. My previous phone was an aging (but perfectly fine) Motorola Razr. We already had AT&T. When I found myself shopping for an iPod and started doing the math, an iPhone made sense (at least that was my rationalization).

Just this week Apple launched the iPhone SDK, so soon we'll start seeing all sorts of 3rd party apps for it. And in June the 2.0 software launches.

I haven't done a lot of side-by-side comparisons with other phones, but to my eyes this thing is the coolest tech device in years. It's really a portable Mac, and Apple does a brilliant job of making all the features intuitive and easy to use.

The iPhone could be marketed as Google-in-Your-Pocket. The web browsing experience is excellent, and YouTube videos actually look better on an iPhone than they do on my PC.

When an included ipod, email, etc. you'll never be bored again. This phone will totally transform the experience of shopping with your wife.
