C100: Interlacing 30PsF Issues

I noticed that when I import the clips via FCPX, highlight them all and tell FCP they are all progressive, then put them on the timeline, it looks great EXCEPT for strong Reds and some very strong oranges and yellows too! They do look stairstepped both on the computer and output via my Matrox to an external monitor. However if I open the finder, and located the clips in the original media bin within the Final Cut Events folder, click and play them from there via QuickTime, they look perfect! So to me the issue is in how FCP is playing them.

I transcoded some via 5DtoRGB and they play clean in FCPX but the gamma looks all out of whack. Are you guys changing the Gamma setting to something other then 1.0 in 5DtoRGB?

Yep. Same here. The reds will look smeared in the NLE but on export they look fine.

I think it's problem of NLEs rather than Canons issue. NLEs incorrectly convert the PsF footage color channels to progressive frames. On the other side After Effects and some transcoding softwares like 5DtoRGB do it correctly. True 25P recording would solve this issue though. Maybe in future firmware update...

I decided to go without the Ninja for the first time and record to the SD cards but I now have interlaced footage on my FCPx timeline even though the Project is Progessive. How do I highlight the footage and tell FCPx they are progressive? I can't see any buttons to click or options to select.

Select the clips in the Event (not in the timeline), ensure the Inspector Window is open (Cmd 4), Click on the Info tab of the inspector, and select the Settings View in the bottom left pop-up. You should see three labelled pop-ups: Roles, Alpha Handling & Field Dominance Override.

It's the Field Dominance Override where you can change the clips to Progressive.

Basically, FCPX (and other editors) sees C100 clips as interlaced even when they're shot 25PSF. So we manually have to change all clips to progressive.

Note well: if you're importing clips and they're still importing, you CAN'T change the setting. You have to wait until they're ALL imported, otherwise the Progressive change won't 'stick'. A bit frustrating when you're in a hurry.

(you can select a whole list of the clips and change them at once, though).
