Interesting Canon 5D & 7D rumor!

Hmmm... very intersting (or GASP!!!! if you all prefer that instead).

I remember hearing Canon was working on some sort of RAW recording module when that first rumor about them possibly making an APS-C sensor XL-style video camera surfaced about a year ago. I wonder if this would be the solution instead, just attaching it to a video DSLR? Then again, it bodes well for the possibility of a full on HD cinema/video camera from Canon in the near future. Why go to the trouble of creating a RAW recording module if it was limited to only 2 camera models?

What I like about this is that they can keep the initial camera investment in a more affordable range, while giving us all the option to upgrade with the RAW recording module later, as opposed to the XL-H1 which forced you to pay for the HD-SDI connectors whether you needed them or not. A lot of people just shot HDV tape. That's why the XH-A1 was such a big deal.

Good news either way if this is true.

I guess I'll switch to this thread:

I forgot to mention. The same source claims that the 5D2 will get a firmware update “to match the 7D’s framerate and resolution.”
Obviously I have no idea if this is true or not, but it makes sense that if Canon is making an sRAW recorder for the 5D2, they would give it 24p."

Alright, now I'm REALLY skeptical.

I'm not buying the 24p firmware update for the 5Dii but I can see them selling a RAW recorder that does 24p.

If these rumors come true I'll have my fingers crossed for xlr inputs on the record module.
