Hey crew. Wanted to know if anybody had or has heard of any kind of full coverage insurance for HVX200. Just about a week away from ordering the camera. To help pay for the cost I'm gonna rent it out to local production companys and independent filmmakers here in San Antonio,Texas and need some kind of insurance incase it is damaged or stolen. Thank you in advance.

...also make sure the people you rent it to have insurance as well. This is just as important as you having insurance.

Try a search

There are numerous threads on this subject.
I did use the search engine here on dvxuser and nothing helpful came up. i did see a few about production insurance but I only need the camera covered since it will be rented out and for my own personal use. most insurance companys won't cover anything less than 1 million bucks. as far as film/video is concerned.

Good point. Most of the production company's I've worked with here in San Antonio have production insurance but I need my own to cover the rentals for Independent Filmmakers.

My advice is to not rent out your only/best camera. Renters abuse rental cameras more than their own. Unless you rent it a lot and completely pay if off, its not worth the wear and tear. You'd hate to have the camera die during your own shoot because of the heavy use by other people. It's tempting to try to pay off a large purchase like an HVX by making it earn itself. Most rental places have multiple of everything they rent and an abundance of accessories, and can afford to write off a camera that gets damaged, or dies because it has an accelerated rental life cycle. Its best to leave the rentals to places that are retailers. Unless you can only rent to friends with insurance who will treat the camera with the same respect you do.

Just my 2 cents tho

Most insurance policies will not cover equipment you rent. I do rent my HVX on a rather limited basis to people whom I can trust and am looking to help finance it by those rentals. I am well aware of the risks, but that is a business risk I assume. I require anyone from production companies to indies to carry insurance and prove that prior to rental. I agree with Arson's comments completely about trusting one's only personal camera to just anyone. So, get the proof of insurance and the cash up front. Make certain that anyone to whom you rent it knows what they are doing. Offer your services (at a fee of course) to shoot or, if not to shoot, at least set up the camera. That can add some value to the rental. Lots of ways to skin the cat here, but insist on insurance coverage from anyone.

I would only rent out my camera gear to people I trust. My insurance does NOT cover equipment that I rent out. From what they told me, that's a whole other arena of insurance, and since I rent it out so infrequently I don't have that coverage on it.

FYI, I have my insurance through a local Nationwide agent...about $650/year for $24k of gear and $2M of liability.

man I was looking for ever for good equipment INsurance Hartford insurance came in 1/3 teh cost of the other pepole with lower deductables...
