Hello everyone I wanted to inquire if anyone out there carries insurance for their gear or their production business? If so do you have any recommendations of companies, coverages, things to watch out for.

I do appreciate any feedback. Cheers!

Avoid stating that you are in film or video production. Just get a general business policy and tell the agent that you do "photography" [which is true]. If you're in a small city, the agents get confused if you say "production." Trust me. They get especially confused if you say you don't only work in one place (like an office or studio) and may reject you completely.

If you live in a large city and have agents that can sell real production policies, be aware that these policies are mucho expensivo. Unless you're doing BIG things and need to rent grip trucks, etc. [working outside the country], just get a general business policy as a photographer.

Homeowners insurance will not cover your gear if it gets stolen from someplace other than your home, nor will it if your stuff gets dropped while on a job.

I paid $500 for coverage for my A1 and about 5K in extra gear. I needed overseas coverage, including Africa (which about quadrupled the price) but I was glad when a friend basically split my A1 in two when he dropped it while shooting in Italy. I had a $250 deductible (which my friend covered) which was much easier to swallow than a $1100 repair bill.
What I have learned - don't skimp on the insurance or do anything that might raise eyebrows. Usually it's better to do it right instead of cheap.
