We are finally ready to start filming and found out our own insurances company wanted $2k It is a one day shoot with two cast and five crew. Any ideas on where one would find less cost? thanks

Curious if the state you’re in makes a big difference in price. Read an article in Chicago tribune last year about a company in Illinois that moved 40 miles to Indiana and their workmen’s comp went from 1.5 million a year to 200k .

Workers comp is a racket. Those that truly need it/deserve it can't get it or it takes an act of Congress for them to get their benefits, because of the scumbags that game the system(lie to get it) and it puts many companies at a disadvantage, because some states require it and some do not. And as you pointed out, rates vary wildly.

I had an issue with Workman Comp and it was a nightmare. After moving a 340lb dead body by myself I ended up with an umbilical hernia and they didn't cover much and even threaten me if I didn't return to work a week after my operation.

My Dad went through something similar, although not as extreme. But his boss(the owner of the company he worked for) was on the phone with the insurance company raising hell, because they weren’t helping my Dad(he said it went something like “Why in the F***ING HELL am I paying these outrageous insurance rates if one of my people gets hurt and you won’t f***ing cover them?!). In fact, one of the nurses sent by the insurance company to check him out told him to his face that they had already seen the X-rays and scans and knew he was legitimately hurt and needed surgery for his injury(back), but they were literally looking for an ‘i’ that wasn’t dotted or a ‘t’ that wasn’t crossed so that they could deny the claim. And they managed to drag it out so long that when they did finally approve it, the surgeon could no longer perform the surgery.

My Dad said telling the doctor he got hurt at work was one of the worst mistakes he ever made. In fact, I have friends that I shoot with that have gotten hurt(minor injuries) on shoots in the past and then gone to the doctor and just told them they did it just doing stuff around the house. And I don’t blame them.
