install new firmware without battery full

the firmware installation will take tiny bit of battery power... but why it must be fully charged? very annoying. i wud like to change to different hacked firmwares on the fly. so being able to install firmware with not fully charged battery wud be nice...

ok. im getting a cheapo 3rd party battery and a couple of cheapo cards. usually im so lazy to charge multiple batteries though...

I would never flash with 3rd party battery, i have 5 of them and 2 of them are unpredictable and suddenly loose charge very rapidly

The big danger with a battery death during any flash update is it is quite possible to turn the device into a useless brick or perhaps a useful but expensive doorstop.

The part of the software (stored in the flash memory) that gives the ability to reflash is also updated. The potential danger is that the software that gives the device the ability to reflash itself could end up corrupted, the device now loses the ability to reflash itself. The software is also now quite possibly a mix of old and new versions that possibly can not function without crashing.

ive done firmware updates many times. mobo bios updates, iphone jb, a receiver firmware update via serial cable, hdtv firmware update via usb, etc. i wouldnt worry about failing firmware update from 80% charged battery. even if a battery is fully charged, it loses charge over the time. if it loses 1%, the firmware update wont be kicked off.

lets say my gh13 has the 30pN hack and my buddy asks me to take video on his toddlers on the fly... how to explain to him that i cant do 2.5x smooth slowdown cuz my 99% charged battery cant install 60pN hack? a spare battery... i guess i cant use it for taking video... and i wud need to charge it often to keep it 100% charged which will degrade the battery performance over time.

thats just how it works. i've got 2 spare batteries if i ever needed to flash, but i've never had to cause how I have set it up its its just quicker to work around it. with the patch you have to decide carefully how you want to set it up and its just being realistic that cant do anything and everything all the time. just tell your mate you cant do slow mo, done and done. but why cant you? just shoot at 720 as everyone else does for true slow mo, sorted. not possible?, set H to a high bitrate cause it still shoots at 60p and shoot with that for slow mo. as for always keeping the battery charged, it just has to show full bars so not technically 100%. I've never had to keep them charged just for firmware, if i need to flash then i pop the fresh one in, flash, take it out and put the used one back in. There has never been a scenario where i have had to flash the camera so many times on a shoot that I worry about flat batteries. I would be surprised if i had to flash at all on location.

I dont find it a big deal.
