inserting a new clip into the timeline

Does vegas allow the insertion of a new clip into a point between two other clips, shifting the timeline around the new clip automatically?

Whenever I have to insert a new clip or move one, I have to highlight all the clips that need to move to create space, insert the new clip, and then move all the highlighted clips back again. When I am woring with tiny clips or cuts, this is tedious.

Absolutely. Make sure Options>Auto Ripple is turned on. You have some options as to how the current clips on the timeline are affected (current track only, etc.).

Also, if you've performed an edit and want to adjust the other clips on the timeline, use Edit>Post-Edit Ripple before doing anything else

last night i was playing with vegas and discovered that if I engage the (Selection edit tool) and clip on an item and hold, I can move everything from that point both left and right.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try it.

Auto-ripple and post-edit-ripple are both your best friend AND you're worst enemy. Use them with respect and yee shall become significantly more productive, but forget about their power (leave them on without remembering they are on) and you're life will quickly become a living hell as you manage to screw up your timeline beyond all belief and not realizing it until it's way too late. Heh...

haha, I've done exactly that Tainted. Although it was in Liquid, I still managed to "eff" things up pretty bad by forgetting. Won't make that mistake again (I hope).

Yeah you're missing something. If you can't wait, then you should take a couple of the opinions stated here about REAR-PROJECTION DLP & LCD and buy one of those instead of plasma, which is overpriced and overrated. <SMILE> The only exception might be if you want to hang it on a wall, in which case you can go this route, but be forewared, wall-hung TVs SUCK for viewing (usually mounted WAY TOO HIGH). Do yourself a favor and at least look into this option. Trust me.
