Inglorious Basterds !!!!!!!!!!!

I finally saw this film and have been enjoying the reviews and thoughts here on DVXuser.

This was not the film I thought it was going to be. I must have built up some premonitions in my head. I stayed away from spoilers and reviews and went in pretty fresh.

So.....I guess this film wasn't really about a troop of soldiers parachuting behind enemy lines on a covert mission. Well it was, but not so much as I thought it would be. I had "QT's doing a WW2 Epic!" in the back of my head and this turned out to be something a bit different.

I sat there wondering what the poo poo I was looking at. I had no idea what it was trying to be, it felt so inconsistent and all over the place.

That's how I felt.

Now comes the main villain: Landa. I didn't like his resolution AT ALL.

Me neither. The ending was like, what??? He's this diabolical villian, and he's just going to go out that easily?

He knows how to withhold and build anticipation.

The tension building was the best apect of IB for me. No doubt.

That subject matter does not really appeal to me these days.

I was thinking how long ago it was when I saw Pulp Fiction. I rushed back to see it in the theater immediately. My head is in a different place now. This time around, my thoughts are, "Meh. If this was on cable, I doubt I'd sit through the whole thing."

Questions/rambling thoughts:

Why did only Sgt. Stiglitz get a cool font and backstory? Why not the kid from Freaks & Geeks? Why not Ryan from the Office? That whole thing seemed like either they filmed a few and they got cut, or it was just an unfinished thought. I would have liked to know more about the Basterds via some cool flashbacks.

The whole theater felt small. I didn't buy it as a location where they would debut this epic film. It just didn't seem believable as a set (if that makes any sense.) Not to mention the lack of security, plotwise.

I guess a second viewing is in order. (even though I said I'd probably shut it off.) :Drogar-Evil(DBG)::Drogar-Evil(DBG):

The original script of QT actually includes flashbacks for several of the characters in the movie. Tarantino's first cut was 3h10min, but he had to cut it down to 2h28min - at least that's what I read somewhere.

Finally saw this, it was really good. The reason why I loved it so much was the writing. I just love good writing and this is no secret but Tarantino is so good at dialogue...WOW! I honestly could of watch an extra 2 hours of the movie with just the soldiers sitting at a Table with just dialouge.

And what a great opening scene, Christoph Waltz deserves a Best Supporting nod for this film, if it was up to me he definitely would get it. My two favorite scenes was that opening sequence and the one at that Bar, man what great build up.

I went into the theater not reading any reviews or anything and I just expected 2hrs of non stop violence, but what a treat, the violence was so minimal compared to the great dialouge.

If I had to choose one thing I didn't like about it would be the ending. Not the climax in the theater but the resolution with Col. Hans Landa.

And it's been a long time since a movie had me at the edge of my seat with so much suspense from just dialouge. Simply great directing, but even better writing. 9/10.

I agree completely, the dialog and subtle character nuances were incredible. I've seen it twice.

This one good , saw it last night .
Brad Pitt's accent was awfull though but in a good way.
The writing is really good as mentionded above.
but one thing that bothered me was an hour through the film when they explained why old 35mm nitrate film was so flammable . and the girl got that look .
I immediately thought ..... ok she has to find away to get all the Nazzi bastards in the theatre and burn them all alive.
I guess that 's how good the writing is everthing is presented in a clear and devilishly pleasant way.
It 's was like the movie was over for me .... even though it was just getting started .
Qt should have left at 3.10 min.

Aaahhh but that was what so great...could she pull it off? Could the Basterds pull it off? And Col. Hans Landa was a total foil it seemed. I had the same take on it until Landa started bagging the Basterds... Don't make me go see it again!

This movie is in my top 5 behind The Evil Dead, Kurosawa's Dreams, Collateral and The Good, The Bad and the Ugly. (Random? Yeah, I know) I've seen it 3 times in theaters and plan on going again. It did such a tremendous job of building tension exactly where needed and the opening sequence... Wow!

This is a good film.

LOL...I was just watching an old Star Trek episode called Patterns of Force, where they land on a planet influenced by Nazi Germany, and at the climax, Kirk and Spock infiltrate a big event with all the top brass attending by posing as a documentary crew following a blonde bombshell and hero of the Reich, who is actually a spy.
