Inglorious Basterds !!!!!!!!!!!

Saw it last night. This year's first solid Oscar contender for best film, and IMO Tarantino's best work since Pulp Fiction.

I also agree with previous posters: .Christoph Waltz clearly deserves a nomination for his role.

As for the Nazi killing, these "Nazi's"where of the same emotional complexity as the ones of Indiana Jones. They are "bad guys", Western, comic book like. In fact, even the allies, or the Main Girl lead with the tragic past is "simple" in a certain way, more of cinema cliché's of previous historic movies portraying the WWII Tragedy or from Genre revenge movie like westerns, and this works incredibly well. Its a "historïcal genre revenge fictional movie". And its brilliant!

I was not a big fan of Death Proof, but the dialogues in "Inglorious Basterds" were some of the best I've watched in my life. Absolutely masterclass.

This is a true auteur film that combines entertainment with the art of filmmaking. Absolutely top cinema!

I was disappointed. The story was good, the acting was great, but it wasn't what I wanted to see going into the movie. I wanted to see the Basterds. Only 10% of the movie was them. Most of it was about the young theater owner. I thought it was going to go into how each one of them got famous, how did Pitts character get that scar on his neck, what started them? It was nothing about them. Your right about the ending, it didn't even need the basterds. Yeah, it was a good movie, if I knew I was going to be watching a movie about the girl. I would have rented it. I hardly got what I came to see. That's why I am disappointed.

it bored the **** out of me. his success is mysterious to me, like i'm living on the wrong planet or something.

QT aint for everyone. Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, And Kill Bill are all Excellent films IMHO. But He can get Talky, especially if you like action as much as I do.

Yeah, but at this point complaining that QT is too talky is like complaining that Spielberg is too sentimental, or that Michael Bay cuts too fast, or Paul Greengrass uses too much shaky handheld. It's just part of their DNA as filmmakers and it should be expected when you walk into the theater.

I tend to agree with this assessment. I loved the movie for what it was. I really did. But, I too left wanting more of the Basterds. MUCH, much more.

Pulp Fiction has many very memorable moments. IB has half as many, but memorable none the less. I love Pitt's Clark Gable impression (with a southern twang). Hilarious!

I though it was = to PF. This film was incredibly mature compared to the last few films. The dialogue between the farmer and the jew hunter was unbelievable.

Saw it twice this weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed it, even if the titular "Basterds" were an afterthought in the story. You know, when I first heard about this film about five years ago I was thinking Tarantino would make a serious war epic, and it would be more mature like Jackie Brown, but found that the film is really the exact opposite of that. And that's not a bad thing. Because the uber-serious war epics have been done and done and done again, this take on the genre was refreshing. As it's Tarantino, I was expecting it to be a mash-up of older exploitation films, and it definitely has aspects of that, but by the sheer leaps it takes with historical accuracy (or lack there of) it ends up becoming the most original war movie I've ever seen. The story was totally unrealistic, but I don't think it ever had any pretension of being realistic. It's a stylized, revisionist fantasy, and it worked very well for me. And yeah, Christoph Waltz and Brad Pitt gave incredibly entertaining and addictive performances.

its kind of interesting, in that Tarantino films rarely have "lead" vs Supporting actor. its like everyone is a supporting role to the writing.

Favourite scenes:

Farm scene
Bar Scene with the basterds and the actress
The "Italians" speaking to the Jew hunter

These are all true classics. The film is full of memorable scenes- the kind of scenes that will be studied well after Tarantino goes into the sunset.
