Ingesting A-1 Footage on HV20

Picked up a Canon HV20 to ingest my A-1 tapes into my computer. I have about 150 hours of tape from my documentary and didn't want to use the A-1 so as not to put extra wear on the tape heads.

My question is:

What preset should I us to bring in the 24p footage shot on the A-1, and, am I losing any quality by ingesting the tapes using the HV20? Is there no loss in quality because it is a completely digital transfer from the HV20 to the computer through the Firewire? Thanks.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe the HV20 will purely be a tape play-back device, so you won't need to have any special settings on it. All it's doing is playing back the footage shot by your A1.

I had both and the HV20. The HV20 doesn't record 24f, which is what the A1 records, but it plays 24f automatically.

There is no quality loss. Both the A1 and HV20 record 1440x1080 at a 1.33 PAR, which is the maximum allowed on HDV tape, and exactly what will be carried on the firewire.

The HV20 can also be used as a b-roll camera to the A1 if you adjust the color first. (The A1 defaults to a flat color scheme for CC, but can be saturated with the picture profiles. The HV20 defaults to saturated, but is flatter with the cinemode setting.)

They are very complimentary to each other. In Adobe set your time line for 24p. There will be no pull down issues.

I use the HV20 to capture A1 footage to Vegas and find using its remote control to shuttle the tape saves wear and tear on its buttons.
Cheers.
