This is the first job I used the F35 on after taking my time to sort out the package. For whatever reason I was really quite confident shooting with it despite not really running it through its paces other than little practical tests around my home. Man o man, the combo with O7Q+ is really seamless. Loved being able to show clients what we got by scrubbing quickly with the touch interface. Really digging the motion cadence the CCD provides- seeing perfect parallel lines whooshing by during the ride alongs felt right and I basically never want to go back to CMOS ever again.

Some details:
Sony CineAlta v2 primes
12bit DPX
sLog
F900 color space
Graded in resolve with MacGregor's sLog-709 lut on output node

This was also my first time extensively grading 12bit DPXs. What a different ballgame coming from slapping lipstick on a pig with comparatively brittle 8bit C300 footage. Such a bizarre feeling to keep pushing sliders as far as I want and seeing practically no destruction. Almost chemical in a way. Kept all the ambiently lit nighttime event crap at 400iso and was able to push exposure no problem. Let me know what you think. I also did the mix. Incredibly grateful for this board and community to give me the tools and resources to pull the trigger on the F35. Truly a joy to shoot with and grade later. So thanks!

Orange oranges, green chives.. this is really good so much nicer than semi-log-crappo-emulation-lut look.

Nice.

The first snow is a little pink?

Some cooking seems a bit skew in the M-G axis.. but those kitchens are a horror area.

Once again the 35 looking the business :)

Looks great! I think you so confident with use F35 without much testing because F35 is very hard to make mistake. Is so easy to get great image with F35. Your video is very nice and you talented.

Thanks all. Morgan I totally agree there's some magenta and green skews in the kitchen which I didn't carefully tweak enough. I think we had 4000k fluorescents overhead and we supplemented with daylight LEDs and a Joker to make things messier. Control was almost non-existent on this one but what can you do... Now that you pointed it out I'm always +/-1 points in offset or midtones from a fix for stuff like that. I see the pink in the snow you're talking about, too. Doh. Should've given it a dip in hue vs sat.

Hey pretty decent!
COlors look good but sometimes a bit strange. i wonder what you did on the grading.
ONe thing though, overall the whole thing looks to me like it was over exposed by 1 or 2 stops and then brought down in grading. I would check that out because it looks too short in highlights range for what this camera is capable of. But you've given me an idea to shoot my next Petrolicious video with the F35. Fckt it, lets do it!

Thanks Mac. Haha yes definitely some of the shots in the grade the colors ended up a bit wonky. I put your sLog-709 lut on output node. Prior to that I made some separate levels, WB, Sat and Window nodes. As a last minute decision I ended up going up 3-5 points on LIFT to attempt to get the blacks slightly milky. The client was used to seeing an untouched sLog-709 in the roughs and kept complaining everything was "dark". I have a feeling it was due to the nightttime event stuff and I refused to bump the gain despite no control over light.

Exposure wise I was fairly generous in letting things sit high on my waveform knowing I had some latitude in the highlights. The snow was tricky. Some of the exteriors definitely needed a slight reverse S curve from 50-100. I have a long way to go with this camera finding its sweet spot in a variety of conditions, as well as processing it correctly afterward. One big take away would be to monitor in r709 more when I can. I found out that when I swapped SSDs in the Odyssey I lost the LUT I had loaded on.

Camera movement wise I'd say a majority was handheld, then some sticks and a few dana dolly shots and then easyrig during the dinner cause I was cooked. Handheld rig was 15mm with the zacuto universal base and some old crappy redrock grips. Will be upgrading to 19mm at some point. Still a very balanced cam to shoot HH. I love the weight to be honest. And I love handheld.

Unrelated but I'm getting Kinogrip.com to make me a walnut grip with an Odyssey trigger hardwired in. He is trying to keep the LED glow from the button in tact so I'll have a working tally which would be priceless. Chances are he may have to gut the button assembly but we'll see.
