Inexpensive DLSR Batteries

the problem I see here is the charger
it's very difficult to find a bad battery, one that will die young
what's easy to find is a bad charger, one that will make ANY battery you charge with it die young

I use Opteka batteries on my 550D (T2i), but only because they can be charged in the original Canon charger
they've been working just as well as my original Canon battery over the last 18 months
if instead of using the original Canon charger I was using a cheap Chinese charger, both my Opteka and Canon batteries would have died months ago

so: I have no idea if this charger is good or bad, please keep us posted
but unless you can say, 6 months for now, that the batteries are still running just as well as the first day, I'll avoid them

anybody knows of cheap aftermarket batteries that will work on the 5D3 and can be charged on the Canon charger?
 
I've been using cheap Chinese battereis with my 550D and 60D since I bought them. Both varieties work with the original Canon chargers.

I've had no problems whatsoever with the six 550D generic battereies (LP-E8), but the 60D replacement batteries (LP-E6) have been terrible. I bought three of them, and two were faulty. One fell apart within two weeks - the outer shell casing split open without ever being dropped or handled roughly. The other was physically defective and does not fit the charger correctly - it slides in place fine, but does not clip and lock into place as it should - so charging the battery required some gaffer tape to hold it in place. Even when held onto the charger by tape, the charger would never indicate the battery was fully charged (though the other 2 batteries from the same manufacturer work/worked fine with the original charger).

While I'm happy with the 550D batteries, I think I'll just cave and get some genuine LP-E6's at AU$80 each and save myself some hassle.
 
got 2 bad faux batteries in total, prolly bought around 30. No issues with chargers, other than that they can be a bit sloppy if not dangerous... used tape more than once ;)
