Industry Standard? Why Mac?

In what regard? With Premiere Pro 2, their is no issue importing clips straight off a FireStore or P2 drive...

I don't work with a P2 Drive. I don't work with a Firestore. Please direct me to the workflow that lets me take MXF from an external Hard-Drive and cut without using Raylight.

I'll be happy to admit to my ignorance on the subject.

DVfilm Raylight: $200

Mac system with FCP: WAAAAY more.

Even with a super PC running PPRO2 with Raylight, you would still save yourself a lot more than buying a Mac sytem of equal specs, and FCP!

Premiere Pro + Raylight - WAAAY MORE

Final Cut Studio - 1200 all in one app.

Your arguement's becoming moot. It's great that you like PPRO2... but the workflow for me, as an HVXowner/user, isn't there. I don't want to jump through the Raylight hoop when Final Cut is already here for me.

Thats fine, but it is true that for an equal setup, with the same specs, on a PC with Premiere and Raylight, you would still pay less than buying a mac + FCP Studios.

If you already have a Mac system, great.

For some of us, FCP studio will justify a Mac purchase. Not all of us, just some. If FCP was on PC (Which it will be for me soon >:D) then I don't know why I would look at a Mac.

I will say, I am in the School of the Arts here at VCU (in Richmond) and 95% of the 600 people in the school with my have a Mac (Mostly Macbook pros).

I was in class yesterday, and out of 20 people, 7 had their macbooks out and I know at least ten others have them at home.

These are extremely creative people, and for some reason, OSX does appeal to them.

That said, non of them have any freaking idea of how to work with a computer. Seriously, some of the simplest stuff (regardless of platform) escapes these people.

But this is something I have found with a lot of Mac people. Almost all of them (that I have run across) have no idea how to use a computer. I guess OSX has succeeded here.

I love being able to tweak everything on my PC's. I love being able to build them for a 1/3rd of the price of a comparable Mac, I love how XP doesn't hid anything from me. Would I use a Mac if one was given to me? Sure, but I will never, ever pay for one.

ROFL Bennis. You ain't kiddin about that.

I love having come from PC FIRST and then gone to a Mac. It just makes it better for me when I can rip through someone's computer doing stuff they had no idea existed.

Oh, and can we say uninstall on OS X? Oh.. no... you can't.

Macs are BEAUTIFULLY built, and look great. i think that most of the "creative" appeal. but i dont carea bout that stuff. i want my work done.

Great link MiniMan!

I'm starting to see that PPRO2 and what CS3 will do are much more powerful and reliable than what most people assume.

Proud to be an Adobe user.

No doubt, a Macbook Pro is the sexiest computer I have ever seen, but really, I don't by my computers to look at them, or fit in with the decor of my home.

I'm a mac user, but not an Apple zealot. I don't believe that macs are somehow a "standard". Frankly, I think overall, PCs are a better deal.

I use FCP, but having also used Vegas, I think they're equivalent (slightly different strengths in different areas), but Vegas is even easier to use. Yet, no question Vegas is almost absent in the industry compared to FCP - and I don't really know why (i.e. why based on merits, since there are all kinds of reasons otherwise).

Use what you like. Everybody has their quirks. For me, aesthetic looks are very important, and that's a big reason I have a mac laptop - I just can't stomach lugging around an ugly PC brick. So, call me shallow, but it affects my mood, and maybe subconciously other things (if I'm more creative in a aesthetically pleasing and stimulating environment, why shouldn't I take advantage of that?).
