IndiSNAP Lens gears... my review

hey chinkster, I couldn't help but notice your juicedlink looks like it might be under a lot of stress connecting the whole camera and rails unit to the tripod. but maybe there's no room on your rails for the jl? just lookin out.

Thanks! It got me worried too, after I tried carrying the whole shebang around, so I changed the JL position to directly under the camera.

BUT... the problem is, with the JL directly under the camera, the follow focus won't reach the lens gear :(

So now I have to look for a spacer/riser to raise the follow focus. Either that or get some L-brackets to fix the JL off to one side of the rig.

Sigh... All the gotchas when you try to get into this video thingy...

Do you leave your lens gears on your lenses when traveling? If so, are they staying on the lens in the same place you mounted them?

Will the magnets break loose if you pick the lens up by the gear?

Can they slip or wiggle back and forth when mounted on a lens?

Cool innovative design, but I would like to hear more feedback from others on the questions above.

1. No, I break it all down for ease of transport.

2. I personally don't pick the lenses up by the gear... I mean, the magnets are strong. Very strong... but they're not THAT strong and I'm not about to trust my lenses to them :)

3. Some padding is provided for you to adjust the grip of the gears on the lenses.

I really think I should do a video review of the gears when I get back home. I'm now on the road with only my GF1 + 20/1.7 for company... talk about stripped down!

Hope this helps!

Yeah please do, I'd like to know more about how the foam seats the gears.
