Hey I was looking through the indifocus website and came across this rig but was unable to find any reviews on it. Does anyone have it or has anyone read some good reviews they could post?

Thanks

The only issue I'd have is this: "or after removing the handles and shoulder mount, on a tripod studio-style."

Why would you need to remove the handles and shoulder mount to go to a tripod? Maybe it's just bad wording?

I have seen pics of it with the handles and shoulder mount on a tripod, so it's definitely possible, I'm not sure why they say that.

any idea if those holes in the half-cage thing are threaded? i wonder if there's clearance for a battery grip. i like that you no longer have to use allen wrenches to tighten the handles. that was one thing i hated about my old indirails20.

Does anyone know if this would likely be compatible with rear counter weights?

Otherwise, this could be slightly front heavy, imo.

I've had this mount for a few weeks now, and have used it on a shoot once so far. I'm enjoying it, especially considering the price! I haven't used any other mounts, so can't compare it to others.

I'll answer the questions I can, and get some pictures up later today.

As for removing the shoulder mount and handles for tripod use, it depends on your tripod probably. I have a smaller stills type tripod and the rig is a little too heavy for it when fully assembled. When I remove the front handles, and the shoulder mount (easy to do BTW) the weight and balance is fine on a stills tripod. If you had a video tripod with proper balance adjustment, I doubt you would need to remove anything.

The half-cage does have threaded holes. Don't know the size of the threads however, nor how many of the holes are threaded. I will check later today and post a reply. One thing about this half cage/handle thing is that the form is a little off balance.. tough to describe, but the top isn't completely flat, it's slightly angled. I'll show a picture later, it will make more sense.

I can see it being front-heavy once you add tons of gear, but don't know what's required to add counter-weights to the back.

I have a couple small issues, but can easily forget about them when I remember how much money I saved. Like I said, I will post pictures when I get home later today.

As promised, here are a bunch of pictures of this mount. Click for larger versions.

Here are a bunch on tripod, with no handles or shoulder mount attached.

Here you can see the cage/grip threaded holes. Three on the top (one for grip)

One on side

The rest of the holes are un-threaded. Don't know why..

Here's a flaw in the cage/grip. Probably just cosmetic, but worth pointing out I guess.

This is the bottom if the rig. 2 holes for the cage/grip attachment, and 2 holes for attaching a base plate.

Here are the handles and shoulder mount attached.

Here's another cosmetic problem.. the metal scratches easily so when you tighten your handles on the bar they leave marks. Doesn't bother me so much, but again, worth pointing out.

This is what I meant by the cage/grip being askew. You can see it angles up, rather than being even. The bends aren't exactly 90 degrees I guess.

Here are some pictures with camera attached. I used a point & shoot, so quality is a little lower than the last pictures.

Here you can see there may not be enough room to mount hot-shoe accessories. Especially the Rode videomic.

Looks like just enough room for a matte-box mount.

I had the same set up as well minus the shoulder mount. It worked great for me but I never used it and sold it to a member here. It really is a nice piece.

Here's one of my biggest complaints with this rig. The tightening lug for the plate is too large and the camera is in the way and impedes the ability to tighten it. It takes a little messing about before you can tighten it down. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, or there is a fix, but it's the most annoying part of the mount.

The plate's tightening knob is designed to ratchet. If you can't get any tighter because the camera is in the way you pull the tightening knob outward so it disengages from the bolt, turn it the other way, let it spring back into place, and then tighten again.

What did you use to mount your monitor to the top? I'm getting a Lilliput monitor in the mail any day now and am still deciding how to mount it. I like your placement.

NICE! Haha, I knew I was doing something stupid.. I'll edit my post now. Thanks!!
