Lucas didn't want Harrison Ford for Raiders. He was very resistant to the idea of it and auditioned several actors before basically conceding to Spielberg on Ford.

Have you ever seen the screen test for Tom Selleck with Karen Allen? It looks strangely like a scene from Magnum P.I., which, of course, was the *only* reason we didn't have a Tom Selleck as Indiana Jones.

Spielberg at work. Very interesting.
EDIT: Found a better version, in multiple (6) parts again.
It's on the special edition DVD Box set, Bonus Materials disc. You can see a piece of it about a minute in on this video--

Didn't care for the white diffusion on everything...
Ugh. Me neither. Is that Spielberg's "Magic Bullet" or what? How long has he been doing that? I think I first noticed it in Minority Report...
the ghosts in the original were frightening
That's Janusz Kaminski with his "special filtres". He was just wrong for the film. Your average episode of Lost has a more realistic and Indy-like look to it.
You bet.
CGI sucks big time. Not only in this movie.
For example, I liked the puppet Yoda much better than the CG one. And so on...
Better than puppet Yoda Bricey ? Say it aint so Joe !
