in this corner ****DVX vs. HVX****

That spider has caused some nightmares, yes. And it's huge. Probably a good three inches in diameter, leg tip to leg tip. That was taken in my back yard here in eastern North Carolina by the Atlantic.

We got used to calling that thing "the spider", until a few days ago when I was working in the yard and found THREE MORE. And they were BIGGER than this one! The biggest of 'em all must have been almost the diameter of a DVD, at least four inches tip to tip...

and that's why I live in Cali :)

well we also have some crazy stuff...I had a taranchula and a rattlesnake in my backyard and this is within LA county. :( . haha I'm getting off topic :P .

The full tele is tough to compare since the HVX goes further. It's not the same framing, it's tighter, so it looks better. The full wide is pretty much matched and the HVX is definitely sharper.

However, didn't Adam Wilt fine that on the HVX gamma and sharpness settings were linked in a way? That when in a CINELIKE gamma mode, the sharpness was lessened, even when set at 0? So that HVX CINELIKE with Detail at 0 was similar to DVX CINELINE with Detail at -5?

I think the sharpness setting on the DVX seriously degrades the image quality. After biting the bullet and shooting my last DVX short with Detail -7, V.Detail -7 (and in Squeeze), I was blown away by the smoothest images I had ever seen, sharp where the focus was a creamy everywhere else... I'm sold on a low Detail setting.

You definitely have to go lower on the DVX than on the HVX. I would normally never go above, say, -3 on the DVX, whereas on the HVX I'm rarely below 0, and usually hovering around +2 or so.

And yes, Adam did report that the cinelike gammas on the HVX have the added effect of cutting the overall edge enhancement in half. So -2 using HD NORM gamma is about equivalent to using +2 with CINELIKE-D.

question guys. What would you say to someone buying HD as their first camera. with little to NO experience with 3ccd cameras previously. He isnt actually looking at the HVX, he's going with the latest 'prosumer' Canon HD/SD.... not sure on the model.

To me its a little optimistic, naive even. I just got a DVX and dont know half the sh#t some of u do. And by the time i really know what im doing HD will be in my pricerange. For him he will be using the in camera SD option for a while while he gets o know the Camera, and the processes of storing, editing HD....

what u think?
p.s. I didnt start a new thread coz i thought it fits in with Anarchists thread!

when I looked at this thread, I knew it would be interesting. Then came the spider at close up. :crybaby:

I dislike spiders, and I believe it's my only fear. That thing looked poisonous!

Nice comparison, IMO.
