In the field P2 workflow

First of all I hope not to be too redundant in my post but there is an amazing amount of different thoughts concerning workflow with many updates. I have read through many threads relating to workflow with the P2 cards and have boiled it down to what I think a decent approach will be.

Just to be sure before I head out on my first real test of the workflow this is what I plan on having for my setup:

2 - 16 gb cards
dumping onto an external drive via a powerbook 1.67ghz laptop ( 2gb Ram)
I will use P2CMS to unload cards and to delete the cards
Cards will always be write protected

When and if the laptop proves to be too cumbersome in some aspects of my shoot I will dump cards to a battery powered external hard drive (dedicated and formatted by the camera).

If need be I can use HDD on computer for additional space.

I guess my question would be what method of backing up files would one propose ( i.e additional HDD, burn to DVD, etc) and have I missed anything critical in my process?

I edit at home on FCP but am unsure if I should bother installing it on my laptop or just use P2CMS to organize until I return home. Any thoughts on that?

I appreciate any additional insight one might have,

Two drives in a mirrored raid setup from the Laptop is the simplest and most foolproof method for getting a backup.

That makes sense from all the talk about drive configurations ( that would be Raid 1, correct?) I have yet to buy the drives I'll need as my current ones are not Raid configured. I'll sort through the plethora of threads on drive recommendationshttp://www.dvxuser.com/V6/images/smilies/undecided.gif

Now when you say two drives, is there a way to simultaneously drop the clips onto two scratch drives or is that something you have to do manually?

Thanks for the reply and by the way I enjoyed your tutorial on Barry's HVX DVD. I plan on purchasing your DVD, maybe after I get my pay cheque from this upcoming gig

Using the RAID setup in Desk Utility will do this automatically- one drive appear on your desktop and it goes to both drives.

Thanks Noah!

I'm new to the whole Raid and archiving, so that info helps out plenty, especially since I need to get everything in order before the end of the month and feel comfortable with the workflow. I plan on executing many dry runs to get the real feel.
